There could be any number of reasons why they are not out, but if I drove there, and didn't see any out at a time that I thought they should be out, and that has sometimes been the case for me, I'd assume LE must have made a patrol through the area recently. I believe it's only because of LE's periodic harassment that they are not out 24/7. Otherwise, I think they'd be out everywhere, all the time, and picking them up would be a piece of cake. They want what they want just as much as we want what we want.

So I figure it's a pattern like:

1.) SWs come out.

2.) People in the community complain (parents, religious people, school bus drivers, etc.).

3.) LE comes out and scares all of the SWs away *OR* locks them up.

4.) No SWs are out anymore. People stop complaining. LE stops looking for SWs so much. Time passes.

5.) And the SWs come back out. The cycle repeats itself all over.

If you use Kingsway as the southwest corner of the zone and branch off from there you'll be more likely to find something. I rarely do the SW thing these days as I have a lot of UTR and SB. Some of the SW might not appear at first to obviously be a SW. Every now and again I go looking for one for the heck of it and can usually spot one within an hour depending on the time I'm out and about. 95 percent of Gastonia SW are white FYI.

You won't find them being so obvious on Airline like they used to. LEO has scared them away and scared mongers too. So you have to look in different places. I've met a few in QT on W. Franklin. Also Waffle House and Dollar Tree. This is southwest of the zone. They don't stand on the streets waving or hang out so long. You just have to go inside QT or buy gas a few times and linger there. Sooner or later you will see one. Just make eye contact and smile. Offer to pay for something. Of course not every girl is working but after a while you can tell. Some just don't know they are working yet. Ask if they know anyone looking to make some extra $. The ones who get offended just walk away. The ones you want to meet know what you're talking about. Waffle House just after 2 am is a good place. Dollar Tree is a good place to look. One more thing. When you're scoping take your time and make sure she is not with a BF or husband before you approach.

And, always follow the 22 rules on street mongering posted on the front page of this site. Never discuss business through an open car window. Wait until she in inside your car and you have driven away from the scene together.

There's not one place in particular, you have to keep your radar on all the time, 95 percent of mongers won't be able to find the willing ones until you get some experience under your belt. QT funny you mention that, I picked up a girl there as well a few months back. Haven't tried Waffle House LOL. I don't get to go out to Gastonia too often due to being busy with work, and other things, but I did see a hot looking WSW on Airline a couple of weeks ago. As I have shared before, catching someone walking into or out of a store, striking up a friendly conversation maybe offering a ride on a hot day and seeing where it goes has worked for me. Heck even gals that weren't looking for action may take advantage of some quick cash. I always go for inexperience and naivety over a methed out / cracked out gal that would freak a snake for a fix and is turning 12 tricks a day and is an expert at stealing everything on you or in your car.

I'm sure it may have had something to do with it, but I had always assumed the primary reason for it is an increasingly hostile culture and intolerance towards the hobby. Maybe I am wrong, but to me that would seem like the most logical explanation as to why there are vast differences between the number of SWs out today versus the SWs of 20 years ago.

From what I understand, twenty years ago, the focus of LE was in arresting the women, not the hobbyists. Today, LE goes after the hobbyists, and it is our money that brings the SWs out in the first place. (A shift that I'd blame on the politics of our country that has been influenced by the politics of some other countries). So if the number of hobbyists goes down significantly, I'd expect that to bring down the SW population as well. Then when you also look at the role of technology not in the sense of websites, but in the sense that there are cameras everywhere, and today, everyone has a cell phone whereas back then everyone didn't, it's a lot easier for someone that hates our hobby to report anything they see just like that, and have LE right on it. Plus you got a lot more churches out there today, then 20 years ago too that I think has played a role in influencing people's attitudes toward the hobby. Like I can't even enjoy putting my radio on scan anymore without some religious music popping up in the mix these days because religion is everywhere in this country. Even in Gastonia's SW areas, there are churches everywhere. You can not get away from it's influence here.

I do think it's smart thinking to avoid SWs that have guys with them, and like you, have credited that with being able to avoid some potentially unpleasant situations.
