Easiest thing to do is don't be dumb, don't go to certain places at night. I myself carry in Walmart, lowes food, GNC and so on. Be safe.[/QUOTE]Personally I never considered a 22 until a firearms instructor pointed out its benefits to me. You're right though a thick leather jacket might catch a 22 round. IIRC there have also been people who took a few shots from a 22 center mass and kept moving for a while. The instructor's advice came with the caveat that shot placement and situational awareness will be key. A 380 is a good alternative but last time I was in the market for a handgun the ammo for 380 was fairly expensive and IMO if you want to carry you should have significant time firing the weapon you intend to carry.

The credibility of a prostitute who is likely on drugs will be a huge factor in how credible of a witness they are. Add to that the fact that the person you shoot may have a history of such acts and you've probably got a pretty solid self defense argument. Most guys don't admit to being robbed but of the ones who have, their stories usually break down to one of the following:

1. Prostitute didn't provided agreed upon or any services and the guy walked away.

2. John was accosted in the parking lot and threatened if he didn't hand over money (you're in an open parking lot and why you're there likely won't be an issue).

3. Guy gets accosted in the stairwell or coming off the elevator (you're away from the prostitute and have a right to defend yourself).

4. Someone comes out of the bathroom or another room (this happened to some guys in Fayetteville and one was brave enough to call the cops AFAIK he was never charged but everyone in that house was).

You're right about the 21 foot rule. It's also important to keep in mind that everyone carrying has not practiced shooting under stress or in some cases even drawing their weapon under stress. I advocate that armed or not you hand over the money in most situations but if I'm boxed in a room I'd rather get stabbed reaching for my gun than possibly not make it out of the room because I didn't reach for it.

With practice you can draw and fire about as quickly as someone can close the gap (you likely won't get on target but the sound of a gun firing freezes most people).

Mine pertained to the room situation mostly. As you said giving up the donation most likely remedies the problem. Hotel rooms always check the bathroom and if the room door is lockable. If you go in a residential home and guys are present that's just asking for it. Now outside is a different matter and no one can cover all situations. There is a difference between someone threatening to beat your ass than actually having some type of visable weapon and ability to retreat. Every state has their own rules on this so know it. Also even if your not charged there is a possibility of being sued civilly. Everyone has to make their own decisions on this and this only applies to up close and personal encounters. If your worried about the 22 step up to 22 mag or 380 for up close and concealability.

Not everyone has the mental capacity to handle a gun this is not tv and shooting at a moving target is very difficult. I have 3 weapons of choice and all are for different needs. I keep a 20 gauge Remington pump shotgun in my house because it's easy to shoot and a women can handle the recoil and it will put out a good sized shot pattern so your accuracy doesn't have to be great. But the main reason is the pump action of click click is a universal language. Then when I'm out I carry a 9 mm Glock 26 it's compact and a great carry gun. In the winter months when I have a larger jacket I carry a shoulder holster 9 mm automatic Uzi but its terribly inaccurate so my theory is more bullets are better then more powerful bullits. A gun is a very empowering piece of equipment but it can also make you make stupid decisions so take many lessons and go to the range monthly. I have had very intense pressure filled training and keep myself up to date with lots of practice. Like I said a gun is not for everyone because drawing your weapon aiming and pulling the trigger at another human being is a tough thing to do. The only other thing to add is buy your gun legally its a pretty easy process to get a permit and take the concealed carry course.

Great carry weapon if you can handle the kick. Turning on the laser will intimidate some.

I only remember one statement from it, "If your only tool is a hammer you will look at every problem as a nail. ".

If thing go bad and you're carrying someone is most likely getting shot.

I feel like I can handle myself in the majority of situations without shooting someone. I'd rather be robbed than kill someone and then have it in the headlines. I carry concealed but never when visiting providers, I leave it in the car. If the hotel or situation seems sketchy or even if I get a funny feeling, I don't put myself in it. There is no substitute for familiarity training at the range and thinking about your course of action when faced with a threat. If you choose to carry then you have to be willing you pull the trigger if all else fails. I consider a firearm a tool and it's purpose is to deter a threat to life. I go by the "Three Strikes & You're Out" rule. When faced with a danger always try to avoid confrontation. However if the threat is real; 1st Strike: Draw your firearm, point downward and give a command. 2nd Strike: Raise the firearm and aim center mass while giving a command. 3rd Strike: Pull the trigger if you believe your life is in danger.

If the threat doesn't neutralize itself on the first course of action then you have to be steadfast and willing to neutralize the threat yourself if need be. If you are hesitant then you show weaknesses and threats will gamble that you will back down. Nothing is worse then getting pistol whipped or shot by your own firearm. Keep threats at a distance and give the threat the opportunity to back away by holding your ground and not pursing.

I like a pocket pistol and 380 autos are good concealment option. Right now S&W has a rebate on the 9 mm Shield and 380 bodyguard.

Agree. Always try to avoid confrontation first. That's why I like the 38 Bodyguard with the built in laser. When drawn the laser should be engaged. I don't have personal experience with it's effectiveness, but have been told it can be an additional deterrent and has ended a confrontation with Strike 1. Hopefully I will never find out for sure. I also like it at the range when you are first getting familiar with the weapon. It keeps you very aware where the gun is pointed at all times.
