Read the Published peer reviewed article.
If you got "Cloth masks a waste of time" from the linked peer reviewed article, you need to read it again. The article consistently pointed out that the better options were N95 or medical masks, but as an alternate when those aren't available, a cloth mask does help reduce transmission.
I don't usually jump into these silly rant posts, but it is just getting annoying hearing claims that masks do nothing when it takes no common sense or peer reviewed research to know that any type of barrier is blocking some (yeah some, not 100%) spread. Just like sneezing into your elbow or covering your mouth when coughing. Of course there are still jerks who cough all over the place without concern for others and there will be people who refuse to wear a mask because they have no concern for others. It would be great if we Americans could develop the consideration many Japanese people have had for their countrymen even well before CoVid and see mask wearing as a means of reducing the chance of picking up or especially passing on sickness. Even just the regular flu variants once we get past (hopefully soon) the current CoVid concerns! But we'll always have those jerks who walk through store aisles coughing on everything because they could not care less about the consequences of their actions on others.

Also, further research on the subject of cloth masks will show a 1% or less effectiveness. KN95 and respirators work at an acceptable level. Cloths masks are a joke unless you consider 99% ineffective a useful tool. How do you say "Baa Baa" ?
And of course locking down works too. California locked up tight. Florida open. Which is doing better? Florida.

Yea they work great, but I was in a dusty job situation. No matter how tight the seal, a little dust would get down beside your nose. Pliant to ponder gentlemen.
Please wear a mask.

If that is so Tennessee is doing real good in being bad. As in more cases per. If you don't want to wear a mask don't but please stop trying to convince others to follow you off the cliff.

Cloth masks a waste of time. KN95 and respirators work at useful levels.
CDC link above on cloth masks.
This disease kills old people. Florida population is significantly older than California. 21% of Florida is over 65. Only 15% of California is over 65. Factor in the age difference and the rates of death converge.
Close down your economy like Gavin Newsome for a disease that 99.5% under 70 survive, that is absurd. Sorry. Closing down your economy kills many as well.
Stand by: the next shut down will be due to Climate Change, our existential threat. LMAO.
Thanks a bunch for that reminder, MTW. Sure does bum me out thinking there's no Venice, Italy to visit anymore since it sunk.
Oh, wait. That didn't happen like was promised 10 years back.
Suck it, Al Gore!

Hmm. Couldn't have anything to do with the flood gates that went operational recently, huh?
CDC on the effectiveness of cloth masks.

I will break down the game film here and translate into sheep language. Baa. Baa. Here it is quoted word for word.
"During a pandemic, cloth masks may be the only option available; however, they should be used as a last resort when medical masks (certified or KN95) and respirators are not available. Cloth mask use should not be mandated for healthcare workers, but some may choose to use them if there are no alternatives. ".
What does this mean? It means only morons, sheep, and people in third world settings (read poverty) should wear cloth masks. Why is that? Because it is all about air, air handling, filtration, and aerosoled virus. CDC says health care workers should not wear cloth masks (only as a last resort when nothing else is available). What is the air handling in a hospital in general, or in the Operating Room specifically? A hospital has 20 times an hour turnover of air, plus HEPA filtration, and our OR has 40 times per hour turnover with HEPA filtration. So the CDC says that in spite of that air handling (20 x and 40 x) and filtration, that cloth masks are only to be used as a last resort. Yes! In a high air turnover and HEPA filtered air environment cloth masks are only as a last resort when KN95 certified masks are not available. So that is a high air turnover and HEPA filtered environment that cloth masks ARE NOT to be used unless there is no alternative. So let's go to a crowded WalMart, Home Depot, Costco, Kroger, any retail store, etc. With their 4 times an hour air turnover and no HEPA filtration. How might that cloth mask work in that 4 x non-filtered environment when it will not make the grade in 20 x to 40 x with HEPA filtration? Incredibly poor is the answer.
The takeaway from this CDC article is that only morons, sheep, the uninformed, and the poor should wear cloth masks.
The effectiveness of protection from aerosol virus with a cloth mask can be as low as one percent or less.
KN95 can be 20 to 30 times more effective.
Would you even bother to buckle a seat belt that worked 1% or less of the time?
Cloth masks in a developed country are a sad waste of time and create a false sense of sheep security from the wolves.
If you are going to wear a mask, then get a KN95. I wear one. When one is not available I put on a cloth mask. Not because they work worth anything of value, just because I do not want to hear the mass Baa! Baa! From the sheep I encounter.
Not all masks are created equal. I was recently sent a cloth mask that is about as substantial as a pair of panties. I tossed it. I have and use cloth masks with slots for inserts, and I put inserts into them. The next question to ask is what does the mask do? I. e. , who is it for, you or the people around you? There is simply no doubt that masks (paper, or proper cloth) do prevent transmission from the wearer to others. This is why surgeons use them, and in laboratory settings, why technicians use them (to keep from infecting their cultures with human pathogens, when strong antibiotics aren't used in the medium). It is simply logical that some barrier is better than no barrier. The level and duration of exposure to a pathogen will determine its effectiveness in establishing an infection. If you can cut one, you can worry less about the other (as well as the activity. Talking, or just walking by).
The number of people using bandanas like some old West bandit, or the clear face visors, is laughable. These do absolutely nothing, for you or for others. Football coaches I have seen wearing just visors, in fact Swinney from Clemson was shown walking into the Sugar Bowl in one tonight. Regarding infectious disease, anyway, he is a moron. His team got its ass handed to it tonight also. Have a nice trip back to your hole.
Mask or not. They shut the world down and continue to shut down where they can get away with it. For a virus with a 99% survival rate. Ninety Nine. As in as close to 100 as you can get. This is about control and they have already proven they can do it. If this is truly a pandemic on the scale they say it is. And if masks work to stop it. Then where are the biohazard bins to place these masks in when we are done using them? Where is the PPE training on how to put them on and take them off safely? They aren't there because they don't need them because 99% of people survive this.
It is always tragic and sad when people die. I have compassion and empathy for those who have lost loved ones. But there are just as many risks in the world that cause death that we do not shut down the world for.
So for me. I'm done with the mask. Mandate is not law. Look into the studies now coming out that are finding "a symptomatic spreading" doesn't actually exist. Look at how the PCR tests give false positives for just about everything. Watch the video of a politician testing a glass of coke and getting a positive for COVID. How many "cases" are actually false positive and used to keep people in fear and quarantine??
Time to wake up. Stop watching news on the tv and go find real stats and real studies for yourself. Do your own math. Make your own educated decisions.
