I actually moved away from the islands several years ago, but back in 2005-2006 was there and picked up a woman named Valerie in the downtown area. I don't think the term has any underlying meaning. Judging from the context I believe he was actually referring to the fruit. But if you still have doubts type "avocado" in the search and maybe one of these definitions will suffice.
