To assist those that may be unfamiliar, this happened about half a block off the beaten path.

Years ago, one could walk through that area with little to nothing to fear. Anyone could walk straight through that park any hour and not be bothered. Now you take your life into your own hands if you as much as drive through there.

Don't view this situation as an oddity. Something that rarely happens. You will be surprisingly mistaken.

Any one of us could be next. Much of what happens there goes unreported. People can get killed there and nobody ever knows.

For the past few years, it has been pretty low key around there. Been mostly crack head working girls, pimps and wannabe pimps. With the recent heavy push of Meth and other drugs from the local zoo, things are changing right before your eyes. Some will see it others may not.

There would be a body turn up every now and then maybe on Ruth Street. Crazy Katie would periodically slide off the deep end.

Most of the trouble around there was by and large minor. The pimps didn't want the attention drawn into the area. Neither do the dealers. Yet if something happens, they are quick to send a message loud and clear.

The dealers have now overtaken every block around there. Many of the homes surrounding the park there are occupied by dealers, wannabe dealers, thugs, bums and lowlifes. The punks that work with the dealers are all trying to make a name for themselves. Trying to climb that ladder to nowhere. Don't let them make their name with you as a notch on their belt.

A few weeks ago, I posted I had been shot at in that same area. Around the same time frame this guy was killed. Those people are not playing.

I don't know what happened or pretend to know other than what those in the area have told me. Whatever it was should cause everyone to take a second look at what they might be doing for safety to avoid circumstances such as this.

Personally, I won't travel Jasper from Castor all the way to Clearfield. Same with Ruth St. If something happens there is no place to escape. The streets are narrow with parking on both sides. One may be quite innocent and find themselves in the middle of a gun battle with no notice and no way out. Happens all the time in Kensington.

Many of the streets that cross Jasper are obstructed right turns. The residents are so lazy they park till every inch of the corner is taken rather than walk any distance to accomplish their mission. Philadelphia Parking Authority does not enforce the $51.00 violation for parking to close to a corner. Nor do they enforce the double-parking violation. It's called selective enforcement.

Until Philadelphia applies the same laws equally to all the citizens there will never be equality there or anyplace else. Might as well toss that dream in the trash.

Recognizing this aspect of life in Kensington is the first step in your safety. Those streets are mean and getting meaner by the hour. We need to stay alert and use caution at every turn. Nobody has your best interest in mind there better than you. Nobody has your back better than you. Do not depend on the police or anybody else to back you up when you are in a corner there.

Might be well to adopt my philosophy. That is, There are no friends in Kensington.

That whole stretch from Tioga to Lehigh is beyond crazy. I try not to stop between that area and there are only certain side blocks I will go down. I grew up in North Philly so I know those streets but I see guys riding thru the ave looking like straight marks.
