Thanks for all the info. Size and moral performance wise I'm usually good. I just don't want to get super excited and blow early and not be able to keep going. Biz Trip #1.
This story did not happen in Charlotte, and likely belongs to the Strip Club forum, but I had to share it with my local brothers because it's so much more. I have to frame this a little bit, however. Biz Trip #2.
I need to be vague about some things to protect the guilty (me), in case someone ever put 2 and 2 together. But I flew into a northeast city, rented a car with the plan to travel across the Midwest making service calls for work. Then fly back home from a midwest city. Well the second night, after trying to set up local girls off reviews from this site, I gave up and hit the Strip club. It was kinda small and neat, with bar area seperate from dance and stage area. He said he just needed to run the license and when that came back clean he decided I was "glassy eyed". So he had me perform 4 field sobriety tests, of which I passed all of them. But wait, there's more. For all my cooperation, I was allowed to stand in 25 degree temps while they let Uncle LEO's pet German Shepherd do his thing. I'm told that as soon as Lassie checks out my rental car, I'll be on my way. BTW, mu phone is in the front seat and they won't let me have it til the dog gets done. So Lassie sniffs as I'm telling the other cops to "be careful out there", and, you guessed it, RUFKM?, he gets a hit at the drivers door. Here's where I'm really conflicted. Any other time (unless I'm hiding my location for a number of reasons) I would have denied them the search authorization and exercised my rights. My guess is that this Just drags out the inevitable since they now have probable cause. I had to weigh all the options and decide if explaining why I was out alone at, what eventually ended, nearly 4 am to a few people that wouldn't understand, including my boss. Also getting a citation for the "failure to signal" and dealing with that discreetly 3 states away. Or just let them search because I know I didn't have any drugs. Well they tore that fucking car apart and, although came up empty handed, made sure I wasn't going to make my appointment. They questioned me a few more minutes, and when I knew Miss Sexy had to be gone. I quizzed them about how unfortunate it would have been if (enter all the hypatheticals). They were professional but they didn't care any more than any other complaint department. Don't worry, it wasn't all bad. I was clearly shaken and shaking. Deputy name is the name of someone listed in the sheriff's department but the phone number is completely different (that officer has his own number listed on the department website but the call did not come from that). On a search, phone number is showing up as probably VOIP. (Note that my friend was also contacted by a different party trying to scam him out of money but would drop charges if he gave him money).
So I've told my friend that this is 99% probability that this is a scam. Short of calling the police station and asking for that deputy and saying "did you call from this number", is there another way to verify? Friend is super paranoid and doesn't want to call because he's afraid of it being traced.

He hasn't done anything and it's all heresay I would think even if real which I bet it isn't. Somebody probably running a scam. Who is the asshole who tried to blackmail your friend as I believe that is highly illegal.
Sounds like a scam to me. I doubt a cop would call you like that. They would just show up at your door.

I don't think he ever used his real name (not his last name definitely). So at best they have his voice app number and first name. Would take some serious investigating to get his real info from that, so I'm telling him not to worry. Although I am thinking it is a scam for sure. But my friend is still trying to find out if that number is for real. It's not listed in the department so I guess it'd have to be a separate VOIP that the cop uses if that's the case.

Tell him to drop that number and get a new one. Problem solved.
