The report I gave on the d&L parking lot incident was not a sting.The gal was not what I would consider a plant,they were just two people with some sort of issue.

Seems funny they were on a known street and separated with all the manpower for some civil drama.

here's an interesting twist to the "new and improved" cl. the new cl includes new le only search tools that they say is to help track down "exploited children and victims of human trafficking" which is a blanket phrase that means "everyone". finding and helping the ****d and exploited is great but that's not the only thing they'll use it for.
obviously the content of the ad that we can all see and search ourselves isn't what the search tools search so they must be getting ip info, phone numbers associated with cl accounts or credit card info and who knows what else.

bowing to a challenge from the connecticut attorney general’s office, the popular web site craigslist.org last week unveiled new search tools for use by law enforcement aimed at helping track down exploited children and victims of human trafficking.

more than two years ago, in response to a herald inquiry, jim buckmaster, ceo of craigslist.org, said illegal activity on the site is best handled by the craigslist community, which flags inappropriate advertisers.

but this week the site announced a partnership with 40 state attorneys general that will help track hookers who moved from the street to the information superhighway by requiring working telephone numbers and credit card payments. that information, on request, will be handed to law enforcement, buckmaster said.


“they never threatened us, they challenged us to do better,” buckmaster said. “that started a series of discussions and face-to-face meetings with them and ags.”

buckmaster said they were never threatened with legal action or promised any protection from law enforcement. he said as part of the agreement, the site created a new search engine with tools accessible only by law enforcement and the national center for missing and exploited children.

“we’re providing specialized searches . . . to use for identifying and locating exploited and missing minors, and trafficked persons,” buckmaster said. “talking to them has been very fruitful in determining how we could help them in their important work and creating tools for their search interfaces.”

he said all law enforcement has access to the new tools, including massachusetts, which refused to sign on to the partnership.

a spokeswoman for state attorney general martha coakley said her office rarely investigates prostitution on craigslist.org.

those cases tend to be handled by local law enforcement and district attorneys, she said.

On-Line Prostitution Lands One in Jail

Pursuant to a Craigslist posting, the Boston Police Human Trafficking Unit conducted an investigation into sexual exploitation.

As a result of information received, an officer working in an undercover capacity contacted an advertisement under Boston Craigslist for erotic services. The undercover officer spoke to a female voice over the phone who in exchange for cash offered sexual services and set up an appointment with the undercover to meet her at 39 Deering Rd. in Mattapan. After setting the appointment with the female over the phone, several other conversations took place during which the time, place and services were confirmed with the same female voice.

At the established time, the undercover officer arrived at 39 Deering Rd. and called the previously established number, which was picked up by the same female who told the officer that she was across the street. The undercover officer walked across the street and met the female in front of 40 Deering Road. The undercover approached the suspect at which point the suspect asked, “Are you a cop?” The undercover officer answered yes and displayed his badge. Officers again called the number they had been calling all day and it rang to the suspect’s phone.

The suspect, Sara *****, 20, of Fall River was arrested and charged with Prostitution.

...I wonder how many of us have run into providers and had the feeling that they were enslaved? I know it happens, but wonder what is the real split between voluntary and involuntary. Is Human Trafficking a new route to "probable cause" - whether valid or not?

at least nationally some children were taken out of harms way. of course they shouldn't have been put into danger the first time. those who do it should be taken out and shot but that is only my opinion. however the vast majority including those listed here were not ****.

norwood — local, county, state and federal police on friday arrested four women on prostitution charges and two men who officers say are involved with them on other charges.

law enforcement officials from several agencies friday answered several suggestive advertisements in unspecified media outlets and, as a result, made the arrests.

police arrested mellissa , 23, of hyde park, sharnita , 21, of boston, and crystalee, 23 of dorchester, and charged them them with sexual conduct for a fee.

ashesha, 26, of roslindale, was picked up on a warrant of sexual conduct for a fee.

during the investigation, police seized several cell phones, a gps unit, two laptop computers and cash, according to a norwood police department press release.

police spokesman yesterday declined to say where in town the arrests took place, saying representatives of the site were uninvolved with the alleged criminal activity and cooperated fully with police.

"the location is innocent in all of this," "some of these things happen in norwood because of our location, i think - right next to (interstate) 95 and (rte.) 128."

the arrests came as part of a three-day nationwide effort to pluck children out of the world of prostitution. the federal bureau of investigation's web site says the work led to the "recovery" of 48 children and the arrest of 571 people. the fbi site thanks many local police departments, including norwood's, for participating in the effort.

the nationwide campaign can be traced to the federal bureau's innocence lost initiative, a program begun in 2003 that combines the work of the fbi, the department of justice's child exploitation section and the national center for missing and exploited children.

according to the fbi, these groups have worked successfully to rescue over 575 children since the initiative's inception. investigations have successfully led to the conviction of more than 300 people who exploit children through prostitution.

I just saw on ch 7 news that 7 people were arrested in new york in a sting from cl erotic services froom 6/2007-12/2008. It was called room service entertainment. I don't know if it is the same room service that is here.

Cambridge — After numerous complaints about prostitution at Cambridge hotels, police set up undercover operations that resulted in seven arrests last week, according to reports.

A sting operation was set up by the Special Investigations Unit on Nov. 5 at an unidentified Cambridge hotel after a police officer made an appointment to meet with a woman advertising massages in the Yellow Pages. She agreed to give him a one-hour massage for $100.

At about 7:02 p.m., officers saw a woman get out of a Honda Accord, carrying a black bag and a newspaper. She went into the hotel room where an undercover cop was waiting and “began to disrobe down to her undergarments while engaging in casual conversation,” according to the report. She then asked for the money and the officer reportedly handed her $100 in cash. She told him that gratuities would be extra. The officer then gave a prearranged signal and detectives entered the room and placed the woman, identified as R B, 60, of , Allston, under arrest, charging her with sexual conduct for a fee.

Under the direction of Sgt. Robert Grey later that day, surveillance was set up at an unidentified Monsignor O’Brien Highway hotel after an undercover cop set up an appointment in the Yellow Pages personals. He spoke to a man who quoted a price of $225 per hour with “a nice blonde,” according to the report. He then spoke to a woman on the phone and they agreed to meet that evening.

At about 7:27 p.m., a woman got out of a Buick sedan and went to meet the undercover cop in one of the hotel rooms. On entering, she asked for her money and was paid $225. Then she called someone on her cell phone to check in.

The woman reportedly removed her shoes and clothes and lay down on the bed next to the seated detective. After a pre-arranged signal, police entered the room and placed the woman under arrest. A condom and a cell phone were reportedly seized. A S, 26, of , Winchester, was charged with for sexual conduct for a fee, according to the report.

At the same time, detectives approached a man in the car that was parked in the lot after dropping the woman off. During questioning, officers found him to be “vague with his responses.” Looking through the windows, cops reportedly spotted a sledgehammer and a credit card machine. They also saw a lot of paperwork, women’s boots and a notebook with names, times and addresses written down. Four cell phones were found on the front seat as well.

Police called the woman’s phone, and the undercover officer reportedly answered it in the hotel. The man, identified as M S, 57, of , Brockton, was placed under arrest, charged with deriving income from a prostitute.

Under the direction of Sgt. Robert Grey, surveillance was set up at a Mass. Ave. hotel after an undercover cop set up an appointment with a woman via Boston Phoenix personals. The woman agreed to meet with the officer for $200 for an hour of services. Cambridge Police did not reveal the name of the Mass. Ave. hotel.

At 6:55 p.m., detectives positioned outside the hotel reportedly saw a woman, described as Hispanic in police reports, come out of a black Nissan Armada driven by a man, described only as black. She met the officer in one of the hotel rooms and asked if he was a cop; he said he was not. He then paid her $200 in cash. The woman reportedly made a call on her cell phone confirming her appointment and that she had been paid, before undressing to her undergarments. At this point, detectives entered and placed the woman under arrest. She had two Lifestyle condoms with her that were confiscated.B R, 36, of , Pepperell, was charged with sexual conduct for a fee at 7:29 p.m.

Her purse was found in the Armada. A handwritten piece of paper and a Boston Phoenix advertisement were also found and seized as evidence, according to police reports.

On the same day at 7:11 p.m., J H, 26, of Boston, was arrested on Mass. Ave. on charges of sexual conduct for a fee following another undercover investigation.

An officer reportedly answered an ad in the Phoenix and made arrangements with a female for a massage priced at $260. The ad was titled “#1 cute, petite & sweet college girls of Boston,” according to the report.

They agreed to meet in the Sheraton Commander on Garden Street. At 6:50 p.m., detectives saw an Asian woman dropped off by a black Toyota Scion. She met the officer in a room inside and told him the massage came with “Everything — full service,” meaning oral sex to intercourse, according to the report. The officer gave her $260 in cash.

At this point, investigating officers stormed the room. H was placed under arrest and charged with sexual conduct for a fee. A bottle of oil and a cell phone were confiscated.

A little later, M S, 17, of 395 Water St., Quincy, was arrested 8:42 p.m. on Mass. Ave. on charges of sexual conduct for a fee, according to a report.

An undercover cop made arrangements to meet with the suspect after responding to an ad in the Boston Phoenix. She reportedly agreed to give him a one-hour massage for $225.

They met at a Mass. Ave. hotel room, where she reportedly asked if he was a cop; he said he wasn’t. She said, “If you’re not a cop, then go ahead and touch my boob.” The detective reportedly declined and asked what this was about.

Minutes later, police entered the room and put S under arrest on charges of prostitution. A search led to police confiscating two Trojan condoms from her purse.

In a similar incident that night, K T, 39, of 3417 , Jamaica Plain, was arrested at 9:32 p.m. on charges of sexual conduct for a fee, according to a report.

Once again, an officer made an appointment to meet with a woman off the Boston Phoenix classifieds. They agreed to a fee of $250. They met in a Mass. Ave. hotel room, and the officer paid her the fees in cash.

The suspect then allegedly began to undress and asked the officer what he wanted to do and what was his favorite. The officer in turn asked her the same question. She reportedly replied, “Everything but Greek” (anal sex).

After a pre-arranged signal, other officers came in and placed Tatum under arrest. Two condoms and a cell phone were seized.

The driver of the car she arrived in was interviewed after officers reportedly found a 2-month-old baby in the back seat. The man reportedly told them he was waiting for his girl. The man was found to have a suspended license and was told he could not drive.

Police filed a 51A report that is required under state law when police suspect that a child is being neglected or abused or subject to endangerment.

Officers sent him off in a cab with the baby, according to a report.

PROVIDENCE—Rhode Island State Police said they’ve arrested 14 people for prostitution-related crimes since a new law went into effect that banned indoor prostitution, including a man who plays the New England Patriots’ mascot.

State police said Friday that since last month, they have arrested eight men, five women and one 17-year-old girl for prostitution or for procurement of sexual conduct for a fee.

Solicitation Lands Suspect in Jail for Prostitution

Yesterday, Thursday, December 10, 2009, members of the Human Trafficking Unit assisted by the Special Investigations Unit conducted an operation to investigate a complaint of a female soliciting clients for prostitution services.

An officer working in an undercover capacity (UC) placed a phone call to the advertisement posted on the escort section of Eros.com under the name of VIP S**** with a contact number. A voice mail was left on the voice mail and later on the undercover officer received a call back from a female who told the officer that she would not be available until after 2:30PM. Arrangements were made to meet with the female on the other end of the phone later on in the day at the Park Plaza Hotel. Around 3:25PM, the female called the UC and told him that she would be on her way down to meet him. A short while later, a female came down and identified herself and escorted the UC to a room in the hotel.

The UC and the female, once inside the room, negotiated the terms of “the deal” which involved payment of $250 for a half of “girlfriend type” of sexual experience. At this point, the UC identified himself as an officer and placed the suspect, A** C. C*****, 24, of Boston and charged her with Prostitution.

UNDERCOVER PROSTITUTION STING LANDS ONE IN CUSTODY

Within recent time, the City of Boston has been experiencing various individuals participating in the crime of prostitution in the area of Washington Street, Berkeley Street and Harrison Avenue.

As a solution to this problem, Boston Police Officers assigned to Area D-4 (South End, Lower Roxbury & the Back Bay), conducted an undercover sting targeting street level prostitutes. Detectives working in an undercover capacity continued to monitor this immediate area during the early morning hours on January 15, 2010.

A black female was observed on East Berkeley Street believed to be involved in street level prostitution. One of the undercover detectives engaged this individual in conversation where she offered to perform a sexual act for a fee.

Based on the Officers knowledge of the area, the female’s actions and statements, she was placed into custody on the prostitution charge of Sex for a Fee. She was identified as Nekia C G, 28, of Roxbury

A Craigslist hooker bust in the same Hub hotel where police say cyber-trolling accused killer Philip Markoff tied up a Las Vegas call girl has raised new fears the Web site’s seedy side remains a hunting ground for predators and their deadly tricks.

“This is a dangerous business,” said Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley, whose office is preparing to prosecute Markoff. “It’s just a matter of time before somebody gets killed.”

Boston police nabbed 27-year-old alleged nightwalker XXXXXX of Sacramento, Calif., at the Westin Copley Place hotel Wednesday night after an undercover gumshoe answered her ad on Craigslist - the same site where authorities said Markoff met erotic masseuse Julissa Brisman and escort Trisha Leffler.

Besides the Boston bust, cops in Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina reportedly have busted prostitutes using Craigslist in recent months.

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who led the charge for Craigslist reform months before Brisman’s slaying, said, “Continuing problems are reflected in this arrest. While there has been real progress, prostitution ads on Craigslist persist.”

BPD spokesman Joe Zanoli said, “Prostitution is as current as the headlines and as old as the Bible. We continually take preventive measures to curb such activity by monitoring ads through Craigslist. It’s an ongoing problem.”

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley said cracking down on prostitution ads on Craigslist is “frustrating because the advertising itself has been protected by federal law.”

But Zanoli said this week’s bust sends a message to other would-be cyber-hookers. “When this is done, these people that participate in this illegal activity are aware of us monitoring their ads and it makes them more careful or it deters them from doing what they do in our city,” he said.

Authorities said Anderson arranged a dalliance at the Westin Copley after the undercover cop answered her Craigslist ad. She directed the officer to a hotel room where he found her “scantily clad” and paid her $200 for a promise of sex, authorities said.

Anderson was arrested on prostitution charges and cops seized a laptop and $3,100 cash from her. She was released on $1,000 bail after her arraignment Thursday and is due back in Boston Municipal Court on Feb. 11, a Conley spokeswoman said.

Markoff, a 23-year-old former Boston University medical student, is charged with a sex-fueled April 2009 crime spree that included tying up and robbing Leffler at the Westin Copley and killing Brisman, 25, at the nearby Copley Marriott. Markoff is due in court next week for a hearing in the Brisman slaying.

The new bust reignites the controversy surrounding Craigslist, which pledged to crack down on prostitution ads in the wake of Brisman’s slaying. Responding to heated criticism from law enforcement nationwide, the Web site implemented new guidelines that required payment for adult postings, as well as strict monitoring to weed out prostitution or other illegal sex solicitations. A Craigslist spokeswoman did not respond to requests for comment.

FRAMINGHAM — Two women accused of being prostitutes were arrested yesterday and are scheduled to be arraigned today in Framingham District Court.

J B, 22, of St., Fitchburg, and S M , 20, of St., Revere, were both charged with prostitution after an undercover investigation, police said.

The pair had advertised their services on craigslist.org, asking for a $100 "donation" for a half hour of sex, or $200 donation for a full hour. The charges were doubled if a customer wanted both women.

They were arrested at 9:03 p.m. at the Motel 6 on Rte. 9

Both women admitted to being prostitutes, and claimed they made more than $1,500 a day.

Information released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office said the defendants advertised the services of Asian women on Craigslist and in the Boston Phoenix.

The indictment also charges the defendants with one count each of inducing travel to engage in prostitution, one count of sex trafficking by force or coercion, two counts of forced labor, two counts of harboring or concealing aliens, and seven counts of interstate travel in aid of racketeering.

The indictment alleges that between August 2004 and February 2010, the defendants conspired to entice Asian women to travel to Massachusetts to engage in prostitution.

The defendants advertised in various newspapers in New York, California, Massachusetts, and elsewhere, for Asian women to work in the defendants’ brothels, the indictment says.

The women, who generally arrived at the South Station bus terminal in Boston, were taken by the defendants to apartments in Quincy, Boston, Stoneham, Newton and other communities where they engaged in prostitution, the indictment alleges.

Some were illegal aliens when they were harbored in the brothels, and some were forced to work, the indictment says.

The indictment also charges Jing Liang Chen and Wei with sex trafficking and harboring illegal aliens and using force, fraud and coercion to cause the women to engage in a commercial sex act for the defendants’ financial benefit.

All five defendants were arrested today, three in Massachusetts, two in New York.

QUINCY — Asian brothel closings raise concerns over the extent of human trafficking in the sex trade

An attractive woman in her mid-20s, greeted her newest client at the apartment door. An $80 house fee bought a 20-minute massage. For an extra $90, “Ming” undressed and provided much more.

The graphic narrative about one john’s sexual transaction at a North Quincy brothel was posted online in 2007 on a site where men swap tales and information about prostitution in communities around the United States. A phone number listed by the author – “Sinner77” – is one of the same used by five people arrested by federal investigators Wednesday and accused of threatening Chinese immigrants to force them into prostitution.

It is no secret that the world’s oldest profession continues to thrive in the Boston area. But the closing of a dozen so-called brothels in this week’s sex-trafficking case begs the question: Are other “masseuses” and “escorts” who advertise services on Craigslist and in publications such as the Boston Phoenix actually unwilling participants in the sex trade?

Special Agent Bruce Foucart, head of New England investigations for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said the agency is “seeing more” organized sex trafficking.

An estimated 17,500 people are smuggled into the United States each year, Foucart said in an interview, describing a multibillion dollar industry that often leaves illegal immigrants saddled with smuggling debts that are paid off in sweatshops or brothels.

Foucart said debts are particularly steep for Chinese smuggled into the country – $35,000 or more, owed to “snakeheads,” as some smugglers are known.

“If their family cannot pay, they’ll hold them hostage,” Foucart said.

He said the arrests this week show that “this isn’t just in urban areas” but also in the suburbs.

Human trafficking is a global enterprise, with operations in Latin America, Eastern Europe and elsewhere. Authorities can only guess the extent to which prostitution is linked.

Few sex-trafficking cases have arisen locally. In one, six men arrested by the FBI in 2007 – including a man from Quincy – were sentenced to prison this year after being convicted of running an interstate ring in which prostitutes were controlled by violence and swapped among pimps.

Online, prostitution review sites are divided into state-by-state discussion forums with titles like “Maria in Braintree” and “Angel on South Shore is real defensive!”

The Patriot Ledger is not identifying the Web sites by name because they encourage prostitution.

For the past four years, replies have been posted in a thread headlined “Any good Asian Massage in Quincy?” Men have written about paying for sex at apartments on Brook and Hancock streets and Independence and Newbury avenues. In one post, a newcomer is warned that Quincy police monitor the site; in another, a man warns that a “couple busts” were reported in The Patriot Ledger.

In Sinner77’s account, the author said he responded to an ad in the Boston Phoenix and was told to go to a Russell Street address. When he arrived, an “older mama-san” waved him to a squat apartment building across the street, where he was asked to remove his shoes at the door.

Regarding Ming, the author wrote, “Apparently she’s from L.A. and was just making a rotation in Boston.”

According to a federal indictment, the brothel operated at an apartment at 18 Newbury Ave. J*** L**** C***, 30, D*** K** C***, 41, and Y* E* J**, 26, all of Quincy, are accused of aiding in the enterprise, which allegedly used ads in Chinese-language newspapers to lure immigrants in New York and elsewhere into the business. At least two lived in the country illegally, and, according to federal prosecutors, were told that friends or relatives would be harmed if they tried to leave the lucrative business.

Such threats are common in cases of immigrants who are toiling to pay off smuggling debts, said Bradley Myles, executive director of Polaris Project, a national nonprofit that combats human trafficking.

Elaborate fee systems are designed to keep these immigrants in a state of “debt bondage,” Myles said, with something as simple as letting a towel touch the floor resulting in a fine, beyond room and board. Many prostitutes keep only the tips left by customers, he said.

Myles said Asian massage- and sex-parlor rings are in every major urban center in America, but little research exists to show how pervasive sex-trafficking within these operations is.

Even when arrests are made, Myles said, three “invisible populations” often escape scrutiny: the johns and the landlords and advertisers who profit – unwittingly or not – from the illicit businesses.

Quincy Police Chief Paul Keenan did not respond to a request Friday for an interview.

In the case this week, federal authorities allege that ads were placed on Craigslist and in the Phoenix, which collected at least $13,125 last year. Publisher Stephen Mindich declined to comment for this article.

“You’ll get no information from me,” Thomas J. Higgins, a Milton resident who owns 18 Newbury Ave., said in a brief telephone interview. “I know less about it than you guys.”

Higgins said a Chinese property rental agency manages the building, which he bought in 1972.

No one answered when a reporter knocked on the bright yellow door of Apt. 9. A neighbor said he had seen men come and go from the building but never suspected that the women living there were prostitutes.

“I did give one of them a ride to South Station once,” he said.

Three defendants in a federal sex-trafficking case were freed on bail after detention hearings, and New York prosecutors are attempting to extradite two others to Massachusetts.

U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin on Thursday released Jing Liang Chen, 30, of 91 Hollis Ave., Quincy, and Dong Kai Chen, 41, of 60 Russell Park, Quincy, on unsecured bonds of $100,000 and $10,000, respectively, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz. Yu En Jin, 26, of 133 Commander Shea Boulevard, Quincy, was released Wednesday on a $10,000 unsecured bond.

All three are scheduled to be arraigned in U.S. District Court in Boston on Monday, April 12.

Unsecured bond means the defendants were released without posting any cash but agreed to be held responsible for the amount of the bond if they fail to appear for future court dates. In the case of Chen, his parents backed the $100,000 unsecured bond, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney’s office said.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested the men Wednesday, alleging that they helped run a lucrative sex-trafficking operation from rented apartments in Quincy and 11 nearby communities. According to an indictment, the group forced Asian immigrants – including at least two women in the country illegally – to prostitute themselves by threatening to harm loved-ones if they disobeyed. They allegedly advertised in the escort section of the Boston Phoenix and on Craigslist.

Hong Wei, a 37-year-old New Yorker nicknamed “Ms. Chen,” and Xiang Hua “Darren” Zhang, 27, also of Queens, were arrested there and are facing extradition to Massachusetts.

Included in the 14-count indictment are charges of sex trafficking by force or coercion, harboring or concealing aliens, and interstate travel in aid of racketeering.

The indictment refers to unnamed co-conspirators who apparently have not been arrested. Christina Sterling, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney’s office, said the investigation remains open.

The indictment says Wei ran a brothel at 18 Newbury Ave. in North Quincy.

Judge Sorokin ordered the Quincy defendants not to contact one another and to report weekly to the court. They were ordered to surrender their passports and told not to travel outside the state.

Chen, known as “Mike,” could get a sentence as harsh as life in prison if found guilty of the sex-trafficking charge.
