As promised, here is my report on my experience of Manchester during my long road trip earlier this month. I drove up from Lowell on a Sat afternoon and the weather was good. I hit the Super 8 but found it wasn't a traditional motel and quite pricey. I then drove along Pine and there was no sign of anything. I found the Tudor (thanks to whoever it was that gave me the tip off). At first there was nothing there except a couple of strange looking guys. At this point I was still under the impression that it may be a motel of sorts, so I parked up and asked one of the guys if it was. He was nice and said it wasn't and then suggested another place. Conferring with another guy they came up with Econolodge on the other side of Queens bridge. He also noticed I was from outta town by the NY no. Plate of the rental car (wasn't too happy about this as I stood out like a sore thumb). During this conversation, I noticed 3 ladies shack up with some empty crates just in front of the place. One of them definitely looked like a classic WSW but the others didn't really. I think they were eating food out of a can or something. Anyway, I decided to play it cool and ignore them as finding a room was more urgent. I was happy at this promising find though. This would be a big mistake on my part.
I drove over to where I was told on 2nd street. On the way, before the bridge, I noticed an independent motel up on a hill off the road. It was called Quality City motel or something like that. Anyway, I noted it and went to Econolodge. There I found the same thing as the Super8 so I left. I checked out the other place and asked to see the room first. It wasn't the nicest of places but everything worked and it was cheapish so I took it. I then checked out all the hot spots including the park but no joy. This continued all night pretty much with not a single sighting of a girl. The only exception really was outside Tudor. Whilst some of the women there looked like slight possibles, I was too scared to make a move. There was also no parking outside. At one point, a couple of biker cops showed up. I decided to act cool (or stupid) by asking them if I was ok to park in the private lot right before the Tudor. They suggested against it and directed me toanother lot along londonderry. This looked private too but I risked it. I thanked the cops again as I entered the bar. I sat there and had a cola as I watched the scene. Yet again I was scared to approach anyone but I did consider it. Very niced native american type entered with 2 homeless looking guys and they sat near me. She seemed close to one of them but I wasn't sure they were together until the drinks flowed. Such a waste. I returned to the motel disappointed.
Next day I returned earlyish (around 9am). There was plenty of parking so I went into Tudor again. An older guy was cleaning up and I asked him straight out about women but he said he couldn't help. Nothing much else of note happened and so I left for Portland, Maine.
