So, it's in the upper 80s as I get off the plane so, pretty bearable. Grab my carry-on which is all that's needed here for a short trip and breezed through customs. If you arrive at Cibao Airport (Santiago) like I did and are heading to Sosua, I highly recommend just getting on Caribe Tours in downtown Santiago. There are 3 other options however. You may hire a private van, take a cab (both of which will end up running you about $50USD) , or renting your own car. Renting is NOT advisable for first timers. Maps of the area is very dated and the roads are in terrible shape and much of the trip takes you through the mountains. Hop a cab outside of Cibao and ask them to take you to the Caribe bus terminal. Negotiate a price BEFORE getting in. You shouldn't have to pay more than 500 pesos. 15 minutes later, you are at the bus terminal. Get a ticket at the cashier to Sosua which is exactly 160 pesos. No need to worry about time because they run every our on the :15s heading north. The bus ride was about 2hrs flat with the stops (one other bus terminal in Santiago and Puerto Plata) before hitting Sosua. The ride wasn't bad and I managed to get 2 numbers from these chicas that were heading in for work. The bus stops just outside of Sosua so you will need to hop one more cab into town. The ride however is only 5 minutes and the flat rate seems to be 200 pesos. You can either get a regular cab or hot on one of the MANY motoconchos as their called. Their basically motorcycles the locals use to get tourists around.
I ended up staying at the New Garden which was just what I expected it from the many monger reviews. There was a fridge, bed with clean sheets, a safe, and a full bathroom. You need NOTHING else men. Don't get caught up with any of the resorts. It's a waste of money unless you're really balling and into that sort of thing. Most importantly, the chicas don't care either.
