What's a good spot for action? I never did try. What's the damage?
Right now, most of the bars are relying on the older customers since the young folks do not really like the Korean Bar scenes. When the older folks die out, it will mean the end of a long, good era. It was good while it lasted. Enjoy your time now before it is too late.
Demise of the KB industry is multifaceted. You're correct regarding the loss of clientele as it appears the younger generations have limited affinity / interest for the KB scene. Current KB customer base is aging, not as active and fading away (rip). The economy is worse for many in addition to inflation. Then there's the increased risk for and penalties from DUI enforcement. The quality and availability of staffing / KBGs has significantly declined over the years. It will be interesting to see what will take its place. I'm sure others share your interest in the decline of the KB industry. I'd give it another declining 5 years or so. Stay Safe this weekend Gentlemen.
Not one to spread rumors but was I informed that Sandra mama from Vegas is taking over at Camelot bringing a few of her loyal ladies with her. Nicky mama from Spotlite purchased the lease at Platinum and will renovate / reopen in Feb. Mama from Wave will be joining forces at Vegas. Keiko mama returns to Honu in May. The beat goes on, at least for now.
Michelle Mama from Wave going to Vegas? Wow.

When Walmart went in we lost several bars and the decline began. Covid was the dagger to the heart of an already declining industry. As the girls moved up economically they got out of the business so what was left were aging Korean gilfs. Viet bars made a minor revival but again covid banged on them. Thai same. Rail is going to kill off some Kalihi bars so your 5 year schedule 70 about right. Ah the good old days, bars and AMPs everywhere with hot young women. Gone but not forgotten.
SS.

She also speaks English with no accent.
Looks like she is trying to pump life back into Camelot with more / new girls.
What's the old Islander?
Anyone with any new reports? Checked out Vegas recently and think I saw these young ones that were mentioned before. One had a dark tan and could pass as Filipino looking if I didn't know any better. Nice strong looking legs but was busy the whole time.
Also checked out Business. Very hard to get any girls attention in this place I think unless you are already a established customer or korean. If you're a newbie to the bar, they don't know you, or don't look asian, can't really get the girls attention to come and sit and buy them a drink possibly which isn't always a bad thing. Anyone out there have any comments on this or advice?
There was one girl with light brown, pretty much blonde hair that looked good. Still think the bartender Emily is the best looking girl in there but can't get her attention when she is working the floor and not behind the bar. She's either busy in a booth or spacing out playing on her phone, guess waiting for a familiar face.
Happy hunting everyone!
Any recent sightings of the young B2 V locals? Haven't seen them, maybe wrong days (weeknights) or too early (happy hour)? Any info would be appreciated.

Mama Sandra and a lot of the girls all went to Camelot so don't know where those local looking ones are now days. So yea, Vegas is empty and when I walked by Camelot, it looked busy. Maybe the, congrats on the new bar early rush and it will die down soon but who knows.
Are any of you guys seeing action at these Korean bars? If not is that why most of these places seem dead?
Are any of you guys seeing action at these Korean bars? The LVBs think they getting action but most just willing to spend money for the attention the BS KBs give them, as well as hoping to score one day, any day. Most guys go KB because (1) the drinks stay cheap and get food; (2) the regulars form one "Cheers" group bond; (3) some KBGs good for look at; (4) no more lives outside the KB and online forums; (5) alcoholic; (6) in search of something.
KB joints probably slow due for lack of the aforementioned. All IMO so please list your other reasons without argument, challenges, disdain. Mahalo.

The girl can get loud and not be paranoid about people looking cause it's dark. The worst bar parking lot is Golden Tree cause of the liquor store across the way plus all those cheap losers hanging outside the store asking to bum a cigarette.

Because tbh I feel like I am like most. I would only go to a Korean place looking for action lmao. I've been to a few but no one ever comes up to me except the bartenders so I just sit around for a bit than leave. Quite the opposite at vietnamese places. If you wanna keep it to an PM all good lmk! any help is appreciated.
Unfortunately, some factors got to be in your favor to score: looks, manners, personality, humor, and the respect you give and get. Money is the object but how you spend it is as important as how much, as they say. It's all a game and BS in the KBs; need to have that perspective in order to survive, IMO. Good luck, gentlemen.
Haven't been in Business for ages, pre-Covid times. Business parking lot full, must be because of the restaurant next door. Place is more lighted than the old days with less booths. Sushi bar on Kapiolani side of bar was around half full with customers. Regular bar when I arrive had 1-2 customers, when I left had more people sitting at counter. Beer $4. Girls drink $20 for neko, $40 for beer / shots. Girl said still have kitchen mama and food but didn't check out the menu. The girl I sat with was around 30, might try go one more time to see if can negotiate or get action, if not will move on.

Do you think any of the mamasan's will apply for the monies that was approved by the city council?

What's the old Islander?
Old Islander is near Diners on but back side of lot. Heard Bishop estate also owns the land and plans to redevelop the entire block. Many small business days are numbered.
Do you think any of the mamasan's will apply for the monies that was approved by the city council?
No most have more than 15 employees (registered with LC) with W2 forms. Some bars hanged owners in 2022 and 23. They say businesses need to have opened before 2022. $10 K is not enough money for all the losses all businesses lost. I never use Dillingham anymore too much construction material on roads like nails. I know 2 people that got nails in tires on Dillingham.
It's taking over the old Platinum Lounge location. Don't have a definite open date yet. It's that time of year for bar merry-go-round.

The bar is very small to begin with so I don't know how the remodeling went as far as making more space, etc.
Pink lights in the recessed fixtures, swapped the booths from a blue to red color and angled the toilet for a more comfortable shitting the experience. Food was standard grand opening fare. Didn't recognize any of the ladies so must all be from town. I'll go back on a slow day to check it again.

They seemed friendly enough. That being said seems like the bar below has been mostly slow. That aside I was informed that ex-Wave mama Michelle will be the mama at Green Tee starting March 1st. Not sure if it will be a soft opening but she's excited about her new venture. I have no intel as to what GT staff will be staying on or carrying over from Wave / Kalihi Station. Be safe this week gents.

When the failed Rail project come into the are (IF). The city is losing so much money Mayor after Mayor, Gov after Gov, Senators and City Council have failed our tax payers. No solutions for homeless, affordable housing, cost of living etc. Rail will raise fees to all tax payers and the connected real estate tycoons will get richer and richer. More locals will relocate to mainland being priced out of Paradise for $$ Bar guys like us have less choices look at all the bars that have closed and redeveloped.
I've gone past the Old Platinum bar after it opened with the new owners and the parking lot is always full even along the side of the building. Heard they bought out the business next door so it's larger than the old place. Not sure what business they took over I know there used to be a beauty salon close by. Anyone gone there since the new opening / owner Nikki took over and does she have a business partner? Give us a scouting report.
It's taking over the old Platinum Lounge location. Don't have a definite open date yet. Hostess bar scene seems to be dying down slowly. If you got a different opinion then please discuss. Cruising around lately, mostly in town but a few stops in Kalihi. Seems emptier then before and the girls seem to be getting older or not into service and seem to want to look at their phones instead of talking to customers. Probably waiting for established customers that they know will spend money.
Checked out Kalihi side. Vegas is dead ever since mama jumped shop to Camelot. Green Tee decent but nothing to get excited about lately. Honu seems full a lot but eh.
Back in town, Business decent but seems more like the big spenders show up and everyone disappears into private rooms and the bar just looks empty. Decent lookers but more looking at their phone then anything else. VB's dead. Splash bartop half empty and only one booth full. Camelot seemed to be the busiest since mama from Vegas went there and took a lot of girls there too. Busy the few times we went.
Am I missing something or going to the wrong bars? Oh well, that was just my two cents.
Am I missing something or going to the wrong bars? Oh well, that was just my two cents.
No, this one good recon report. At least got something to go on when stay outside and like go have a few. Mahalo.

Dropped into NK but it was too crowded at the bar and no like sit in a booth. Was surprised to see Sunny mama behind the bar. As always Nicky mama looked well. Same scenery at all the Waikamilo complex stops, no noticeable new talent. Splash had a contingent of Viet ladies and a boy if anyone wishes to partake. Heard from reliable barflies that Sandra mama has turned Camelot around with a combination of ex-Vegas kgbs and new talent. Stay Safe.

Off-topic, but seems to have more houseless / homeless gravitating toward bars (likely gathering the drips from beer bottles), 7-11 (expired food handouts), DonQui (various opportunities) and the like. I knew one guy who used to clean KBs and gathered empty beer and liquor drips in one can; go in the kitchen to find discarded food (he once was one successful painting contractor and big spender before the drugs / booze got to him); he stay expired already. Be vigilant and Stay Safe.
