If I had an SO I'd be a little concerned because it makes a unique sound when I get a text but haven't tried to turn off the sound. I can get rid of the number easily if Zi ever needed to.

For me this is the best way from having my SO discover I have the app installed on my phone. There no way I could explain why I have the app installed and it would cause a S!#@ storm if a text popup while she just happen to be looking at my phone.
I've used nextplus for years. You can text for free and you buy minutes if you want to use the phone. I haven't bought any minutes in years and I pay $1. 99 to keep my number for a year.

I have a iphone se 2020.[/QUOTE]Google voice is solid, you can turn off all message notifications so you don't get any surprises and I leaned how to hide the google voice app with in another folder so you kinda have to dig to even find the app. I only use it to text so I didn't link it up to my real cell number. When you sign up for a google voice number you can pick any area code you want. I will say get a "burner" email from google you don't want to link your google voice account to a personal email that you use daily. Google is tricky it's always trying to link things together.
I booked a room once for my FWB and used my real email for confirmation and the damn reservation showed up on it's own on the joint calendar with my SO. Luckily I saw it first and deleted it.
Anyone have any intel on this one?

On your phone, you do not even need the app if having it is a concern. Use any browser and login to voice. [URL]google.com[/URL] using private browsing. You can text and / or call from there and once you log off, any evidence of the activity is gone.
