You can have the opinion that the criminal justice system was unfair to her and initially punished her disproportionately due to race, poverty and other factors, at the same time acknowledged her crimes and sympathize with her victim. It's a damn shame that people get so invested in one side that they don't allow for nuanced evaluation of facts.

Her age and her history back then is playing a part in her getting out. I believe some people deserve a second chance under special circumstances, and this girl is getting that second chance. Her being an international news story is a good thing for her because she is getting lots of support to get out. It also means that is she kills again everybody is going to know about it. She will not have it easy when she gets out, that's for sure.

Her skirts weren't clean, no way in hell they were and at the end of the day, the guy was fucking an underage girl. She can say she's of age but at 16 it was probably pretty clear she wasn't or close enough that I think it's reasonable to ask for ID. Before you guys scoff at the ID thing, if I was attracted to barely legal chicks (I'm not but if I was) I for damn sure would be looking to see ID. Guy would take her out and introduce her to his friends. Some of the guys told him she looked younger than 25 and he told them they didn't know what they were talking about. Then one night he is with her and somebody who knows the girl or recognizes her from somewhere or whatever sees them together and then finds out through other people that the two are dating. The guy who saw them together pulls a foosball rod out of a foosball table and beats the guy who is dating the girl who is really only half the age of 25 up with the rod breaking his jaw and arm. After this happened the police come and find out that the girl he is dating had ran away from her parents home and had been missing for a few days. The guy I knew who got beat up says he met the girl at a bowling alley and that's how they hooked up when he talked to the police. He doesn't end up getting charged because the police have a he said she said case while the guy who beat him up went to jail for a while. Girl went back home to her parents. While the guy was never charged with anything, the police kept a record of this just in case if he was to ever be accused of something like this again.

Consensual sex is not rape and yes, many young women under the age of 18 can consent to having sexual intercourse.

And everyone who is pimped is not a sexual trafficking victim. Many women use pimps to help them manage their careers. Many women would be lost without a manager to help them. Most women with pimps are not sexual trafficking victims.
