Providers just wants to share their info with another provider, which happens more than we like when references are checked. But, out of the blue contact IS unusual and I would definitely be suspicious. It might be a good idea to ask where they got your information from and go back to that provider and ask if they did indeed share your info with them-that would tell you everything you need to know. I would NOT want providers (regardless of who it is) who I have NOT seen, contacting me out of the blue.
