TIA.[/QUOTE]Any pre-paid phone under $100. Never make an "account" with the service provider. Buy phone time cards with cash and manually add it to the phone number via the website. Tracfone works well.

Activate the SIM card thru the phone or with a VPN or public WiFi, do not use your personal info when setting up the SIM card. Refill the SIM card with refill cards paid with cash.

You now have a regular phone with an anonymous number. Use a non-smart phone so you don't have to log in to google / apple when setting it up. Do not setup / log in to the SIM card's account online with your computer or ISP or personal phone, do not enter your real information in the account.

Saw a coworker use it to get an 808 number back in mid 2019, so they could use their website to text at work before telling them their convos could be monitored / read by the company. Now they just use their phone on breaks.

They have a "local area code" option and all you need to do is select it. If you do not, you will get a random area code.

The benefits of having a "smartphone" is that you can use all the relevant apps without it being connected to your main accounts as it is considered to be a 100% real phone. This way, you can Facetime, Snap, Whatsapp, etc. On a separate account as some prefer this method of verification. I suppose you could use payment processing apps as well, but I have no advice on that and all I can say is be careful if you do as the accounts will probably not last long.

TextNow gives you a bunch of 808 numbers to choose from at no extra cost. In fact, my TextNow number is easier to remember than my own carrier number.

My question is how can providers tell you're using an Internet phone number and not a cellular number?

I've used it for years in place of a burner phone. Every so often like a month or more you'll get a text on text now saying that your number has been inactive and may be deleted. So, now I just text my cell number every few weeks to keep it active if I haven't used it in awhile.
