My approach has been to be super respectful and give no hint that I'm trying for anything extra. I've never cuddled with a pro, but have gotten quite a bit of action with non pros. If you come across as expecting to get lucky, they're going to think you're trying to take advantage of them, and might not feel safe. If you can make them feel safe, while very subtly getting them aroused, you're far more likely to get lucky. At least in my experience. But knowing when to make your move is tough.

I have gotten lucky cuddling in jeans before.

Most are quite accomodating as they want you to be comfortable. I think for me its always boxers (which I view as shorts without underwear) and it's never been an issue.
