As usual, the LE officer is using the underage girls line, which is a crock of baloney. Yes, there are underage girls being exploited, no question about it.
But in many decades of street trolling and CL and BP mongering, I can't recall coming across a girl who was underage. Nor do I believe that most of the working girls are being exploited by anything other than their drug habit.
When you put a mention of 'often underage' and supposedly exploited 'victims' into any statement about LE cracking down on prostitution, the non-thinking public just accepts this as so, and no one questions it.
Let's suppose for a moment that BackPage does really stop running these ads. The ads aren't going to disappear. They're just going to move somewhere else. And that somewhere else could well be a much more exploitative website than BackPage. Certainly it won't be long before the advertising business is being run overseas out of reach of US attempts at control. (Shall we talk about the tax dollars and jobs lost while we're at it?
Please LE. Crack down on the underage and the truly exploited. But don't lie about what's really going on to justify your ridiculous campaigns against something that's never, ever going to go away. Go do some real work.
