Got in contact with Katie a couple of days a go. The only picture that is her is the face. And it is before drugs started really taking a toll on her body. During my nightmare with her. I go to the apartment and ask if the pictures are real. She lies and says yes. She tells me I have to do all the work. She asks for money I ask to see the goods. Tell them that you will be traveling overseas for a few weeks and want to take your phone with you to call home, but don't want to buy a new phone for use while traveling: You simply want to change SIMs. I've done that for four or five phones, until I bought my current unlocked iPhone. Then load an application which spoofs or modifies the GPS coordinates and would otherwise require you to jailbreak your phone, since now it is an unlocked phone.

The second best option, IMHO, is a twofold course and a variation on one already suggested:

1. simply turn off the iPhone and remove the SIM. The phone won't register, period, even if accidentally turned on.

2. get a Walmart prepaid phone (aka 'monger phone') to use for the hobby and use it ONLY for the hobby.

Another option is to get a Session Initiation Protocol-based (SIP) phone number and run a SIP-Phone application on an iPod or Android. The downside is one needs an active Internet connection to use the phone application, since the SIP app registers to a SIP server at an Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP). That means having to be at a Starbucks or other hot-spot place to receive or make a call or getting a separate MyFi portable hot-spot. Using a pre-paid credit card to pay for these keeps them below the radar and provides complete portability, including the ability to surf the 'Net from anywhere one has 3 G, 4 G, or LTE service. The downside is one typically has to get the MyFi from one of the major carriers, which may entail a physical billing address.

There's also the Google Voice option, but that either requires putting the SIM back into the iPhone and turning the phone on or using Google Voice in lieu of an ITSP. The upside is there is no charge for Google Voice. The downside is that--from what I'm seeing--more and more providers are asking for a non-Google Voice number.

The bigger question is what is your friend's exposure if his wife catches him mongering? Is he already in the penalty box? Does she have the money and made him sign a pre-nup? Or does he have the money and did not make her sign a pre-nup?

All that does is unlock all the cellular bands on your device so you can jump from carrier to carrier without hassle. Unless you know something else?

From what I have seen those spoofing apps generally spoof other apps on your phone, but some apps are more sophisticated and will not recognize the fake location (such as Icloud's find my iPhone.) Using the jailbreak method rather than simply getting a spoofing app off the app store may spoof more apps but there not 100% reliable. Those spoofing apps are generally used by people who want to use region locked apps (such as Netflix) or maybe fake there friends out on FB or whatever. It'll trick those type of apps but the "sophisticated apps" receive constant updates which will often break the spoofing apps ability to do its job. Even if it does work I wouldn't trust it for long. Are you using one that has successfully and reliably worked?

This is how officer Snotdrizzle or the GOV can track any of us even with dumb phones. You have to be a god like hacker to really fake SIM based tracking. Moreover, its not cheap to do that. You have to be conspiring something big to be tracked that way, not simply prowling, or you have to be someone popular or be the president if it were like that.

Also your SIP-Phone idea is good but can also be trackable. You have to connect to wifi for it to work. Connecting to wifi gives away your location because most of these modern day devices have GPS's built into them (especially Androids.) I don't think the iPod has a GPS built into it like the iPhone but its still trackable through iCloud and what not. If you turn off all location services GPS and everything to use the SIP-Phone that might work, but using it at public hotspots like Starbucks isn't the most discreet either. Also newer portable hotspots have GPS built into them as well nowadays so be careful with that.

The instructions says at end on creating account enter credit or debit card. I just want to pay cash and get the $10 phone and $19 minutes pack. Pay with cash have phone work. Doesn't seem possible.

Since the inception of GPS in our mobile devices its gotten even easier to track us. I've received a few PM's from worried members, and let me reiterate you're generally not going to be tracked simply for hunting. Unless you're pulling some Jeffrey Dahmer / Ted Bundy BS or are a terrorist or something. I do believe that if the phone is off and SIM card out you should be good, but don't quote me on that. Simply assuming and new tech always comes up.

It is smart you're paying cash for it and probably don't have any identifying factors associated with it (name, billing address, etc.).

M Fever you can just put in a bunch of BS info. I don't think there is any phone service where you can just get the phone and put in the minutes. They want some info out of you. There's a bunch of apps that offer free calling / texting on smartphones. I'd just stay away from any powered by Google, but that's just me (Lots of members use GV and haven't had issues).
