I'm originally from NE Ohio and the "thugs" down here make me want to laugh. There are places in Akron and Cleveland that you're warned to not go near past sun down if you're white or not looking for trouble. Hell, there are still guys in Akron, Cleveland, and Youngstown that are affiliated with the mob in certain areas of those towns. Dayton's "thugs" are weak.

I went to school with the grand kids of a few bosses. Lived near a wise guy, that gave me an education. SW Ohio has its thugs, but most as you said are weak in terms of action. Then again we have the feds, Hollywood, Video games and the drugs to thank for the weakness.

It is nice to be able to sit back and watch things play out and know what is going on, while most folks don't know that books are being run in a bar or restaurant. Drug deals being done in the wide pen at all hours of the day.

I used to do security at a club in Canton, near the airport. Hearing how the owner, a very slimey lawyer, paid off the fire and police departments to leave him alone was hilarious. In Akron, the cops know what's going on in the strip clubs and they leave them alone just as long as there aren't any drugs going in and out of the place. I think there are more shady strip clubs there than gas stations. There is one where they have stalls in which you sit in a chair and get whatever you want in full view of the whole place behind a beaded curtain less than 3 blocks from the police station.
