As you know from reading my reports, I normally prefer daylight hours for mongering. That time IMHO makes one blend in much more easily on the K anyway, because it is a commercial street and there are many civilians and shoppers there, normal city traffic and commuters, not to mention an EL and a bus run. There is almost always a pretty good variety of SWs on the K, day or night. You are quite correct that many are good quality considering that they are "street chicks." You may have been well advised to avoid the SW near Lehigh. If I am in a hurry and just doing some window shopping I usually don't pick up a SW just because I have an itch. There is always tomorrow. That's what I don't like about the K at night, or worse yet, in the wee hours of the morning. There is hardly any traffic, and ANYone traveling the Ave is easy to spot, especially with a foreign plate. Plus, vice tends to be heavier at night and LE patrols tend to be just as heavy as in the day, since that is a high crime area for robbery, drugs and violence. So, there are many more patrol cars for every vehicle on the Ave.
And, as you noticed, there are many more SWs out during the day than late at night or in the wee hours of the morning.

There are relatively safe places to go both day and night both for parking and for indoor dates. You just have to get acclimated and do some recon.
