I ask because I've driven by the place several times, and it's not clear to me that parking is even permitted on Florida Ave on that side of the street - if it is, I'm not sanguine about the safety of a car left there, even during a brightly sunny mid-day excursion.

Guys, I had posted the post below on the Baltimore Board but realize that some of you may not read that board although you should being as that area is so close and so fun. I did want to see if this night was merely an anomaly, so I went out a few more nights and can report that the same conditions applied more or less. I also went to Clicks Bar where I have gone before without much success and can report that it is a shadow of it's former self according to the folks who run it but there is still action to be arranged as the girls do come in and out. The booze is incredibly cheap too. Like the rest of this area really late night is when it lights up. Prior to midnight it's deserted. At midnight, not girls on the streets. At 12:30am, I spot one or two. By 1:00am it's like they crawled out from hiding places and were everywhere. By 1:30am 50% were picked up and gone, with the primo ones obviously getting snatched ( no pun intended! ) up first. Unfortunately, when you're an old fart like me, 1:00am is pretty late so eat your Wheaties.

{Went prowling last night through the usual spots in Baltimore. Again, saw very few girls out, but tons of marked LE all over the place in PP area. Went over at about midnight to Brooklyn and saw several girls that looked pretty good and very little LE...or so I thought. I had pulled over for a slender blonde with curly hair. She walks up, leans in the passenger window and proceeds to make small talk, making no move at all to get in or ask the usual questions. My antenna went up so when she finally asked if I had stopped for her, I said no. That was enough for me so I headed back to DC area. On a whim, decided to check DC SW action although I have lamented about lack thereof here in the past.
First spot as you come in to DC on New York Ave, the traditional SW spot was completely empty. Drove on in to check out the
L Street stretch between 17th and 13th that I had seen reports on but never had seen the girls. Before reaching that spot, I swung off NY onto Mass Ave and K st area off 7th and immediately saw not one but several groups of between 3 and 8 girls! Holy shit! Drove past them down to L Street and Holy Shit! again, they were all over the place! Between those two areas there must have been over 50 girls out. It was like the old days when they would yell and wave at the cars. Plus, they were all dressed in the traditional hooker outfits with huge high heeled boots thigh high with a top that only covered the top 3rd of the asses! Lots of open tops with tits all over the place and full slease makeup and hair. It was like an international smorgasbord with black, white, latino, and asian girls in equal numbers and none were less than a 6 with most at least 7 or 8. A few big booties that the brothers like, but lots of slender ones too.
I thought I was seeing things and went nuts!
Now, in equal numbers in the L street area were LE cruisers all over the p place, but there were so many girls moving all around that the LE was pretty ineffective. Additionally, there were a fair amount of guys cruising pretty aggressively whipping U Turns in the middle of the streets, pulling over and taking off that the whole scene was surreal like a sex rodeo. It was almost comical and resembled a sharke feeding frenzy.
I looked over the whole thing pretty well and decided that all I had to do was stay away from the circling cruisers who, by the way, never pulled anyone over and were pulling up and talking and joking with several of the girls. At first I thought that meant those girls were decoys, but then I would see the cruiser pull away to circle again and some guy would pull in right behind and the girl would jump in and off they'd go. I waited until the street area seemed pretty clear of LE and pretty soon a gorgeous little brunette came around the corner with two friends. I pulled up and they came over and merely asked which girl I wanted. Naturally I went with the young brunette! She was no more than 18 - 20 and really cute. Very nice post on the DC SW action. I have always been afraid of pursuing any of that action due to the fact I don't want to get busted.
Can you provide any advice on picking up a SW and going back to a room? It might sound like a stupid question, but I have zero experience dealing with SW's and I have heard that if you get busted LE can impound your vehicle. If I were to spot a lady that I was interested in do they generally have a room close by where they conduct business? Even for just a CBJ or BBBJ I would prefer to go somewhere other than the front seat of my car.

Exercise extreme caution when playing in the SW playground. Getting busted is the lesser of possible unpleasantries you may encounter. Getting a knife in your gut or the crap beat out of you by an SW "friend" are distinct possibilities. On a lower scale of problems is getting robbed of either money, wallet, or even your cell phone etc. And of course the disease risk rises dramatically with these girls, including Aids HIV.
Having said all that, it is far less expensive and somehow exhilarating as well. I think the lower cost is the least important criteria and your personal level of risk tolerance is of more importance when deciding to take this route and in evaluating a particular girl or situation. Frankly, with my heart condition being what it is, I'm on borrowed or at least pretty short time anyway so my level of risk tolerance has risen dramatically. On the other hand if you're married with little kiddies and a nice house in the burbs like I used to be, the risk tolerance is much lower, you can't afford to have problems. Evaluate your own situation, but be honest with yourself.
Having said all that, some practical advice. First of all, take your time and look over the whole situation really well. Park and observe for a while. Learn the girls from appearance that are obvious regulars. You mentioned some are good looking. The best looking are often LE decoys. The others look good from a short distance but up close are often not really so hot. They know how to camaflage pretty well. The key is when you see one you like the looks of and you've decided that the streets look relatively safe enough to try a pickup, make your move quickly otherwise she will get snapped up right before your very eyes. Every time that happens, you become less discriminating and less cautious because you're horny and impatient.
Pull over as close to her as possible and let her approach the car. If she does not approach the car, don't hassle her! Sometimes it's not an SW! Sometimes she has spotted LE and won't approach. Take the hint! Circle around and try again. If it still isn't happening, take a pass. On that same note, don't send too much time in one area circling around and around. Your car becomes very noticable!
Once she approaches, let her lean in the window and she will ask if you are dating or some such question. Nod and let her get in. Under no circumstances ask her any questions related to sex or money at this point. If she doesn'y get in or wants to talk sex or money or is acting coy from outside the car, pass on her immediately! Once she gets in, drive off and let her make the next move. She will generally ask if you're LE and may then grab your dick. I usually wait until they do all that and have satisfied themselves and then tell them to show me some tits and ass. No show equals out the door. All this while be observant out the back and to your sides to determine if you think anyone either LE or her pimp is following you. Get off the main streets and away from the action but NEVER let yourself get on a one way dead end street so pay attention. Now that you're convinced that she's not LE and dosn't have a dick or really bad odor, etc. you can decide what you want. At this point I usually tell them that I am not really interested in parking and doing it in the car. They will try and convince you that it's safe and that they know a good spot, etc. My advice, don't do it! What I have done several times with success is to tell her all I want is a BJ and that she can do it while I drive. Once you're off the main drag, I think that's relatively safe. Usually you have to show ID so there's not a lot of point to registering as John Smith unless they don't require ID, most do.
Often the girls are skilled at negotiating "short term " rates. Decide if you're going to stay all night after you're done with her. Or are you really adventerous and have youthful stamina and going to go out and get another one! Even better is to decide on staying out and get a room in advance armed with all your favorite toys and booze, etc and then go out "shopping". That way, you eliminate all discussion and indecision and time taken to deal with a hotel once you've found your playmate. Much smoother and simpler as far as I am concerned. A few last words of advice. In the hotel with the girl, hide your valuables and keys well! Do NOT take a shower before hand with her in the room! Do take one well before hand so you're not stinky. Do try to get her to take a shower before hand so she's not stinky, or worse, slimy. Finally NEVER EVER fall alseep with her in the room! You will wake up without your valuables or car keys if she can find them and maybe with your throat slit!
In a word, all the way through, be careful, these girls can be dangerous or delightful.

WOW ... I am very grateful for the advice. I had no idea how dangerous picking up a SW could be. I have much to learn.
I am rethinking even messing around with SW's altogether.
For now I am sticking to the AMP's ... I have a weakness for Asian women, but on my limited budget I can't visit them as much as I would like to.
I have never tried any of the DC AMP's that I have seen posts about (Downtown, Supra, Mirage, etc). I have been having good luck with HWC in N VA.

I have never had any major problem (good luck for sure) with the SW scene in DC but it is dangerous and you have to have to be fully alert at all times...thus the thrill.

I would add a couple of small details to trashman's prodigious post. Anytime you come in contact with a man in the SW scene, whether he is offering help finding ladies, hanging out near an area you want to park, or in or near a hotel or other room you arer going to, JUST WALK AWAY from the deal no matter how the lady might protest. Any interaction with a dude can only be bad news.

In my opinion the ultimate wisdom of the SW scene that almost everyone ignores is that you don't have to just frequent the most popular SW beats. THese areas have great ho's but also the lions share of con artist, muggers, and men in blue. Give yourself some time and approach the main areas slowly, and drive around some first. Sometimes you can find some hot chicks, in much more mellow neighborhoods and avoid most of the predators and scavengers.

For those who have the bucks, just go to the AMPS! But please be firm with the mamasan about what you want and have tip in hand to prove you are serious. Way to many whoremongers are getting ripped off in these places since they are learning that they can get $100. from you and keep their clothes on. Good for them bad for us. If it doesn't feel right it's not, so walk out.

Directions and a report on the Downtown AMP in DC:

1) Directions: the Downtown Spa is located at 1018 Vermont Ave, N.W. Washington, DC, 20005-4973, between K and L, on the left-hand (west) side. I noticed that a couple of WSG posters had complained about not being able to find the place. I dropped by there earlier this week and now I understand why: there is no sign anywhere for this place. This AMP is located on the 4th floor of an old 4-story building crammed between two taller new office buildings. On the ground floor there is nothing except "1018" on the glass front door and some partially scaped-off gold leaf lettering for an "herb n spice" restaurant that is now closed. There is also a neon sign hanging inside the window to the left of the front door, but the front of the sign is missing and there's no writing to read. The ground floor lobby inside is also empty, except for a small mailbox that says "4th Floor" - that's the mailbox for the AMP.

Walking up the stairs is a surreal experience, as you feel as if you're in an abandoned building. There is nothing on the second floor landing except a boarded-up door. On the 3rd floor landing is the door to the herb n spice restaurant, but it is also padlocked and boarded-up. Finally you walk up the stairs to the 4th floor, where you find a wooden door with lots of little credit card stickers on it and a peephole, but no sign, nothing to indicate where you are. Ring the doorbell, and they'll let you in.

2) Report: I've been patronizing AMPs regularly since 1989, and my visit to Downtown this week was quite possibly the best session I've ever had at an AMP. I paid $60 to a 40-ish lady after I got into the place. She asked me if I had been there before and I said yes, and that I had been there a year ago and had gotten a $150 special. Downtown hours are variable, but I've been there at noon and I've been there at midnight. The door on the street is adjacent to a now closed restaurant and appears that you are entering an abandoned building. Immediately after you enter the foyer, there is a set of stairs to your left.
