Los Angeles political inner circles run heavily communist/socialist. Promotion of government provided housing, food, jobs, etc is the ideology and seminars promoting the use of Marxism in a post 9/11 society are not uncommon.

In a normal democratic political system with a capitalist economy, the two most important functions of government are protection of it's citizens and protection of their property. However in a communist/socialist society, the overriding function is soley protection of the citizenry. The reason is that the government will spend most of its money taking care of citizens by providing them with housing, jobs, food and other basic necessities. There is no concern for material goods as everyone is "equal"(heh, tho some are more "equal" than others). Therefore no reason for law enforcement to concern themselves with property crimes.

Anywho, thats the political ideology that penetrates Los Angeles so thats what I am addressing.

Actually I am vastly in favor of decriminalizing "victimless crimes", including narcotics and prostitution.

Frankly, our entire political system is messed up. I want to say that each person should be left to their own devices. If someone wants to smoke, and knows they will eventually get cancer due to it, so be it. But our left wing, pro big government push since the early 30's has left us in an untenable position since "society" now has to take care of this individual who has made the choice to damage his/her body. The answer of course is that government(aka society aka a "village"....I've never heard more orwellian language used) ought not take care of people.....they should be able to pay for their own health care up to their means...and then, well, be sick and face the consequences of a poor decision.

Really government should not be in our personal lives at all, within the bounds of the constitution. No need, nor enough good done, by public schools, health care, insurance, welfare, et al.

In all seriousness I agree with you 100%. And the orthodox left is as bad as the neo-conservative right. I'm actually embarrassed now to tell people that I'm a ([i]gasp![/i]) Republican. America has always been a conservative country. But the far right has hijacked the word "conservative" and perverted its meaning. It makes me ill. The Republican Party founders adopted the name "Republican" to indicate it was the carrier of "republican" beliefs about civic virtue, and opposition to aristocracy and corruption. The Republican Party as it's NOW constructed is fascist and corrupt. I could say the same about the Democratic Party. I guess that makes us both Libertarians.

My apologies, Joe. I'm assuming I could look at EVERY previous post of yours and not find a single "Typo," right? Lets get technical. Middle School English will teach you that a capital letter follows a quotation mark. Overused is one word, the hyphen is not necessary. Please use the grammar check function of any decent Word program before you throw stones back for someone else.

Misinterpretation? Here's how Websters defines "Hypocrite" - A person who professes beliefs and opinions that he does not hold. I think the context was proper.

Speck - I humbly apologize if I offended you, but it doesn't seem as such from your reply. It looks as though those around you were offended that I would challenge a statement from a "Seasoned" Monger.

I'm sure you realize that it isn't only the supposed "Communists" in City Hall that cause us grief, it is also in large part the Religious-Right that has a much stronger hold on this city than most would like to admit.

The acceptance of a bit of normal healthy hypocracy is an essential part of the transition from adolescence to adulthood. I often drive a bit over the posted speed limit too, depending on the circumstances, but I wouldn't want to get on the road if all the traffic laws were repealed with nothing to limit anyone at all, and I have to be ready to accept some consequences if I choose to push it too outrageously far. Can you imagine the carnage caused by the homicidal psychopathic lunatics and crackheads, that would be like, er, come to think of it that might be a little like the 110 in LA, ah, never mind...

LOL! Chill dude. I was just fucking with you. And you're right. Kind of. My mistake way using quotation marks in the first place. I should have rephrased the sentence. Or used italics. But I'm lazy. And yes you'll find numerous typos throughout my posting history. Have fun looking at all of them. And you don't need to capitalize the second letter after a hyphen unless it is an official name or a proper noun. Therefore you should not have capitalized [i]winger[/i]. You're also not supposed to capitalize [i]middle school[/i] unless it is preceded by the schools official name. They teach you that in middle school don't they? I did, however, have time to look up [i]hypocrite[/i] on Wikipedia. Here's what they have to say;

Why does the FBI not have these guys on some terrorist watch list, after all they use acts of violence to further there cause? Why is it so hard to stay the fuck out of someone else’s personal business? I do so wonder why religion is given Tax exempt status. As for hypocrisy I remember old Mike Hernandez, Who would buy coke in his district, and had his city council office stacked full of pornography tapes, I don't recall a single measure he introduced in support of pornography. The religious influence on american politics is limited greatly by the constitution. Simply put, when a dumbass law is put into place, it is appealed. For instance, the car confiscation laws implemented by City of Los Angeles.

This does not take into consideration such things as anti pornography distribution laws(which local governments are able to properly and constitutionally regulate), prostitution laws and anti narcotics laws both of which are largely supported by boths sides, or abortion which incorrectly is set up as a nationwide law.

Can you really cite a tremendous influence the religious right has on politics other than on the above subjects? Even in electing George Bush, it was almost entirely due to the expected influence on one issue...abortion(which is entirely lame since like 35 states had legal abortion prior to Roe anyway).

OTOH, the socialist left, due to the commerce clause and also due to the push of "the great society", is able to implement virtually unlimited government influence by redistributing money. There is no supreme court challenge to most of these programs, and in the cases where there is(emminent domain), the supreme court rules in their favor.

So you tell me who has greater influence on politics?

The political situation is what it is, and we have to suffer with it. I agree with DL, for the most part I am getting mine (especially with Tiffany in LA) so I will, as I must, live with the situation.

I'm with you bro. And this hypocrisy permeates every aspect of our culture. How about the so-called War on Drugs? It's complete bullshit. Roughly 440,000 Americans die each year from smoking related illnesses. You see advertisements for cigarettes everywhere. So I can smoke and drink myself to death legally. But blow and hookers? Nope. :)
