LE presence probably has something to do with it. Caution and common sense are the best defense against all the "scary" things you mention.

Mike, your observation about the lack of homicides, and most likely, violent crimes in your stroll areas doesn't surprise me. I realize this is a broad generalization, but what all these areas have is a basic economy. The rich/middle class guys, bring their money to the stroll. That money ends up in the hands of the working girls, who in turn take that money to their dealers/pimps. If there is excessive violence happening in the local strolls, that's going to deter alot of those guys from bringing their money to the neighborhood. Then noone gets paid, and nobody wants that.

Getting to them knowing your number. Sprint / Nextel used to have a feature where you could have all calls show up without caller ID. At least on their monthly plan.
