First, some quick shooting tips:

Most people taking pictures with a point and shoot camera set up get real washed out and flat looking pictures because the flash on the camera hits the subject head on and does not allow the light to create depth in the shot. If at all possible, use some side lighting, usually higher than the girl, to help the pictures. Mixing light from table lamps and ceiling lights with camera flash can create some color issues, but not enough to worry about until you really start worrying about fine tuning your shots.

One good tip is to use light filtering in through the windows for a nice look. Face your girl at about 45 degrees to the light to get a nice light - this light needs to be soft, not glaring day light. If you have to use flash, get a flash that mounts on your camera and bounce the flash off of a side wall or the ceiling to get away from that straight on deer in the headlights flash.

One more tip - watch the clutter and the background. Take a white sheet or a black sheet and thumb tack the thing to the wall and have her pose on that.

To the picture at hand.

Aundea's pictures were typical of straight flash. Her butt cheeks were very over lit and the color was washed out.

I started with a duplicate layer and lassoed everything in the background and filled it with black, just to get rid of the clutter. I chose black because the eye naturally jumps to the lightest parts of a picture and since there was not a lot of warm skin tones to work with I thought that this would make the picture pop.

Created a new duplicate layer and on to Aundrea. I cloned out the bumps on her butt with the cloning tool set at 20% and just smoothed them over. Then I went after the brightly lit spots on her butt cheeks with the burn tool and gradually warmed up the skin tones to match the rest of her legs and back. Used a little blur tool to hide my work.

Then I used the dodge tool mixed with the cloning tool to lighten up the shadows along the butt cheeks and also selectively dodged and burned around the peach to give it a little dimension. All of this dodging, burning and cloning is done at 5% to 20 %.

Then I created a new duplicate layer to work on her color. She had a weird green cast like she was under flourescent lights or something. I bumped up the brightness and contrast just a bit. Then I adjusted the colors (very slightly 2% to 10%) bumping up the reds, magenta and a bit of blue. This was done at different levels in the shadows, midtones and highlights. All of the colors are done subtly and just played with until I am happy.

EDIT: I did come back and did some dodging to Aundrea's face and back so that her beautiful face did not just fade away in the black background.

Once I am happy with the picture, I flatten the layers, then gaze lustfully at her.

You are the one who deserves to be thanked. Your photo shooting and composing and editing tips were very enlightening.

I have never claimed to be a great photographer. I have very rudimentary digital equipment. The three things I have going for me are a wealth of interesting SW subject matter, an eye for what might generally work and be appealing in a shot, and a motivation to capture my experiences and encounters on film to enhance and illustrate my reports about them.

When I had a 35 MM camera with regular film my flash was mounted and I was able to bounce the light to my subject from an angle. That meant I could bounce it off the ceiling indoors for a softer and more natural look with warmer tones. Thanks for some ideas on using other available light.

Thanks for the background clutter tip. That can distract from the photo. A white or preferably a black sheet tacked up as a backdrop would have made my photos better and/or prevented a great deal of editing.

Thanks for all your details on how you edited my photo of Aundrea. I am sure they will be useful to other SW photo enthusiasts as well.

Feel free to do more of the same. I appreciate your effort and photo expertise and I hope the membership does as well.

Jeez Super, you figured out how to remove the time stamp from your pic info. No longer shows up in photoshop. Now that doesn't bother me that much (as long as your being honest with the girls) although it has others here. But was does change is I can no longer tell if you are using your Kodak Easyshare Camera or the Sony FD Series Mavica. I used to like to see which of your cameras took the better picture.

Once upon a time, I would post dozens of pics at once on here from a SW encounter. Like too much of anything, even a good thing, my doing that was just too much at one time. It was like backing up the proverbial truck and dumping the whole load. I should have been taking my lessons learned from wine sipping. You don't chug down a Lafite-Rothschild like it was a bottle of Ripple or Thunderbird. You slowly savor it, and appreciate its complex quality. Such is the case with the pics of certain SWs. I have many, many pics of Tanika to share with you, but I am allowing the bottle to breathe and the time for you to slowly sip and savor each mouthful. I hope you appreciate the adjustment in my approach, and better enjoy the more relaxed pace. It's like a fine strip tease. You are sweetly titillated and tormented, but you know there is more and better to come.
