However, there are waivers which you can get through the Canadian Consulate which you can fill out and submit for approval. The problem is that the waiver has to go all the way to Ottawa to be approved by some government ministry and the process can take a while. There is a Canadian consulate here in Seattle, go their website and maybe give them a call to see if the process has changed.
Canada does not care about drug convictions. Regarding violence, it used to be that assault was treated as a felony in Canada and was a very big deal. I'm not sure how it is now. Anything regarding convictions involving firearms are also treated very seriously up there. I'm not sure about anything involving prostitution. I'd apply for a passport and use that instead of applying for the enhanced driver's license. The process with the license can take hours and they will check into your background, if anything comes up dirty you've wasted your time. You can get a passport within two weeks and if it's issued to you then you are in good shape.

You can hide in the trunk of a car and hope they don't open it; you could backpack in the Okanogan and walk across, or you could google: "can I enter Canada with a DUI conviction" and they will tell you the steps to take. Note: It isn't easy. Chances are you'll never enter Canada again.
