Business in Kalihi is picking up. 904 was dead (no pupus ready except for chips) and Cheers Station wasn't that busy but the pupus are good (seasoned raw tako, chix gizzard, etc.).

The ol' 'Spend 20 bucks on me and I'll spend 2 bucks on you' special deal; they look so disappointed when you turn that hot offer down.

What a deal, huh? I guess they think customa never pass "one-plus-one. "

For the Kalihi guys: still get the local kine bar on the second floor (I think it was "Tondo Tondo") of another bar on Kohou? Heard one boxer used to own it. Anyway, the KB and KBG landscape is changing as we report so should be interesting within the next six months to three years. Take care, everybody.

When upstairs of Cheers Station was Tondo Tondo it was owned by a Filipino guy who was a former boxer. More recently it was owned by a local guy and was named Pau Hana. It is no longer open.

Tondo Tondo was definitely old skool time. I have fond memories of hot Filipina chicks and relatively cheap drinks. However, for the life of me I can't remember the girls I used to finger bang there. It helped that I spoke Tagalog--fun times!

Most of the town bars in shut down mode. Super slow. Kalihi soon to be the Capital of KBs.

Lots of sweet memories at EG, Summit, 74 and many more soon to be Pau.

Thanks to the rich developers and the neighborhood board. Demolition starts this summer.

I used to hit this place after the kbars closed since it stayed open until 4 am. Used to see a lot of fights there. Sketchy crowd. Met a few Filipinas there. One named lynn was really hot. She moved to perfect bar which is same location as 904. She offered 3 some with her so but I declined. She died of cancer several years ago. Girl in left pic was thai and bi. Had lots of fun with her. The other pic is of a bartender that works at hot ash. I think she worked there and went by the name of chris. A few others but can't remember the names. A couple went to work in a Waipahu Filipina bar called best friends but not sure if it is still there. Those were the days.

Anything can happen to the 'block demo' depending on the rail project (now in political limbo); we could actually have a very modified version, making it a choo-choo train. Whatever and whenever that happens, the KB / AMP Powers That Be should be thinking of a venue that will support them (King, Beretania, Young, Keeaumoku) in a town-side KB cluster. After all, crime does pay, so they need these cash and wash businesses as well.

In the meantime, we'll have fun watching where the KBGs scatter and pick up the pieces.

The Watumulls do have lots of money, but the developers could just build around them. The same thing happened to Obun Hawaii. They didn't want to sell, and the Pacifica Honolulu went up right next to them.

Got word that they are demolishing that building where OK TV and the "new" old Nigori was between Asahi Grill and 909 Kapiolani condo. It is supposed to be demolished and a Patagonia shop (outdoors stuff) is supposed to go there.

I remember it being night training grounds for new cops on how to write parking tickets. Even though the perimeter was fenced-in, it was still illegal to park at obviously out-of-service curb ramps. So, new cops were learning to ticket vehicles along Makaloa Street and all up Sheridan. Bar-hoppers were giving each other heads-ups.

Lualualei aside from Vichon and Star Strip I can't remember the names, so many. Mostly images anymore. I just remember a maze of places less than a stone's throw from each other. When your girl moved, it was easy to find her :)

The Japanese bought the place and paid twice what it was worth so they went bankrupt before they could develop it. It remained vacant for several years while they tried to unload it. Finally they lowered the price to a more reasonable level and Walmart bought it. Then it took another year or so for them to get the permits needed. The neighbors complained there would be too much noise, traffic, and crime, and fought development. I guess they forgot about all the noise, traffic, and crime that existed prior to that.

They had Club Vichon, Club Mugen (later Club Laimu with Nicky as owner), Korea House (Chicken Alice mama), and Monte Carlo. Behind.

Club Mugen in a dark driveway was Club Golden Trophy.

I remember Vichon, (Hazel the bartender owns the coffee kiosk at 1600 Kapiolani) Korea House, Utopia, The Japanese Bar on Makaloa, and several more which I can't remember the names of.

Didn't the Superblock developers also have to settle something with an estate / trust regarding the property? There was also the problem with the iwi that slowed down / halted construction.

Bones were missionairies.Then they kept the bones in a refridgerated container under the ramp for 5 or 6 years before they quietly buried the bones at the corner under those rocks.

Maybe Saba (or Sada's). Wasn't Limu there too originally? It was a sad day when they started tearing down those fine establishments. As an aside, some of our finer establishments along Kapiolani have existing leases ranging from 2 to 5 years. Unless they are willing to accept a buyout, I would think that demolition may be delayed. But what the heck do I know. Kalihi has at least three bar sites available, Pau Hana Inn, Kools, and P Water.

SS.[/QUOTE]Sada, Lotte, Target, Masu's Massive, 2-pump service station, billiard hall (2nd floor), original Safari, KB with the huge fish tanks, tow yard, KZOO radio station, Torii's lunchwagon, etc. Developers seem to be hesitant about moving forward at this time offering short, extended leases; maybe because of a HART member leaving recently (lawyers don't hang around a sinking ship; they when process the thing for viability already; Talent when take one buyout). I believe the success of this 'block development' is contingent upon completion of the rail to Ala Moana. They (investors) maybe going suck eggs (or they being taken for a ride like one Las Vegas turnaround).

I've been trying to remember the name of the sushi bar that was next to Crystal palace. It's on the tip of my tongue, but the Alzheimer's is stronger than my brain cells right now so it eludes me. I think mitsfunai's memory might be better than mine. Do you remember?

Had eating contests monthly. Cute waitresses. DJs from 93 QFM hosted. Good times. Damn I'm getting old.

Okay I think it came back to me. I think it was toku's sushi. I remember taking my girlfriend there, and trying to keep my cool when I would see those drop dead gorgeous Crystal palace girls.

Alan Yamamoto had his golf shop close to the strip bar on Ewa-side of Sheridan and there was also a KB Makai of Crystal Palace next to Masu's with a game room across the way (Ewa); used to see the KBGs waiting in their cars (for the place to open), 6 AM. I ordered the Masu's Massive steak and could only finish 1/3 of it; I think they stay Liliha.

When Talent pau, Hemhi, sans Hana, moving to Twilight (her appearance already causing a stir with existing KBGs and barback); most Talent regulars moving to Twilight due to early opening time. Had rumors of other maneuvering (s) by KBGs but still kinda early to confirm as they always change their minds like the Hangul Kingdom of the Winds, full of drama and backfill. Until then, take care and no forget Excalibur as one of the superblock KBs.

Anybody remember Club Yamato? Local bar owned by Haruko. Some nice local oriental girls. Unfortunately, Haruko passed away a few years ago while owning Club Kurobara across Aala park.

I think Club Casino was next to Sada.

Wasn't Club Ruby the old Denver Grill? Denver Grill was before my time.

Towards Ewa from Yamato's was a Japanese bar called "Schontti" and later called "Club Eriko".

I really hope the bars start picking up again. It has been slow, so my gf has been home since April. I'm a prisoner in my own home because when I go out, she wants to go with me. LOL. I'm living my life through your experiences nowdays.

Bars would never go busy like it once was. Too much drama and BS. Too expansive to drink.

Look at how Summit and Camelot once was. Busy nitely and now it is almost empty at most nights.

Once the older generation move on. The KBs will die. It is just a matter when.
