There are regions that it happens (because as you so rightly said, a lot do it in those areas, and at the end of the day, its a service business. If your customers are going to "vendor be" because they are offering something you don't. You either have two choices: Lower your prices to compete that way (not good in most cases) or increase your service offering to be equal if not better. Then it becomes a matter of the provider (which you can swap out) not the service.
