I don't get it. What can Google Voice do that a cell with "meeting" mode and voice mail doesn't do already?

I've always considered a second phone to be trading one risk for another at least from the standpoint of an SO. The risk the SO finds a call in the regular phone I don't want her to find vs. the risk she finds the second phone. I don't see how Google Voice changes the risk.

Of course a "cash" hobby phone keeps the number from being traced.

You can have it connect to your cell ph#, home and work #s or none at all (which is how I roll). Once you do this, you can control down to the specific cell phone # level, what voicemail that # gets, block that cell #, direct it to any distinct # you like, or consider that # as spam.

This is what GV does that your example above cannot do.

It is a hobbyist dream. I personally do not have it connected to any specific #, but I have friends who use it full time (non-hobby functions of course) and love it. If you want complete control of how, who, what people call you, GV is the way to do it.

I've been looking into GV myself. The advantage is that you can give the new Google number out only as a mongering number and then selectively stop calls forwarded from just that number to your cell phone. You can still leave the cell phone on to receive other calls. You could leave your cell phone on at home without worrying who might call.

We know how women act in this business when they are being paid and they know how we act when we are getting laid. We hand them power in some form, a phone number, knowing where we work, whatever, then it happens they aren't being paid any longer. They still hold that power. We aren't getting laid. We still hold what power we were handed when times were different.
