I feel your pain. Something similar to me happened last year. I was literally caught with my pants down. Out of nowhere, 2 cops knocked on my windows in the middle of a HJ. They told the SW to get out, and questioned us separately. I was read my rights. My life, my career, my family all flashed in front of my eyes. It all easily could have come crashing down. After about a half hour of making me sweat, I was allowed to go, like you were. There but for the grace of God go I. For months afterwards, I kept checking the mail for a summons. Luckily it never came. I swore I'd never do it again. Not worth the risk. I almost let my guard down while out of state a few months ago. I almost picked up a SW. I made a loop, looked all around, so no LEO, and started to slow down to pick her up. Something scared me off, though. It must have been a guardian angel, because as I drove off and looked in my rearview mirror, there was a police car right behind me.

I was thinking why did I do this. I seriously have so much to lose. A good job which I'm still fortunate to have, my home, and everything else. The cop was like c,Mon. We know why you picked her up. The cop then said you know how many guys she's seen and you know we are in the middle of a pandemic! I thought they were going to arrest me and my life was over.
They said I was lucky to meet a couple nice guys like them and they just let me go but they said if they me again it's over. I can't tell you guys how happy and grateful I was to leave unscathed. Maybe they let me go bc there's far bigger issues going on. But this made me rethink picking up sws. People have so much to lose if they get arrested and also there's this virus going on. Far be it for me to tell you guys what to do. I've been doing this hobby since around 2000 but this experience was a wake up call man. If you guys still choose to go out there please be super safe and wary. It really also depends on your luck. As for me I don't think I can do this anymore. To much to lose. They will try to trick you into admitting something, and will chip away as long as they can. The less you say, the less they can trick you with. Never consent to any searches. If they ask why you're out there, or who the girl is, just say you're doing nothing illegal, ask why you were pulled over, ask if you are being arrested, and ask if you're free to go. Exercise your right to remain silent. They aren't being cool, and they aren't your friend.

But, to tell them to buzz off because they ain't got nothin on me isn't cool. Doing that would piss them off and bring you to the station, tow your car (hope it's your car and not your wife). So 2.5 hours of strolling to find a decent piece and I came up goose egg. Sun was coming up so, I headed back to base. Time for a field trip elsewhere. This is bullshit.
