Stupid me, I didn't pencil in the profit on the ladies drink. I'd say it is probably $.50 cost, so profit is $4. 50 per. 100 drinks is $450. Now I'm kicking myself as I should have gone partners in that bar!
You're one of the smartest guys on this Forum.
Some places are so dead it's hard to imagine that much volume on girls' drinks; but yeah I agree it's that non-linear income from hostess drinks that made them rich (when they used to be slamming busy).
Speaking of which, when Butterfly was Business and loaded with young scantily-clad T & A, they were very busy. Has anyone seen that caliber of girls anywhere recently?
I guess Ann-mama's demeanor is what made her pretty to me; unlike a cranky, grouchy hottie who to me would seem ugly.
I agree with you for the most part, but personaly. I never say never or not going to ever happen.
Thank you for the thoughtful and considered comments. You're right. As with so many things in this world, there aren't so many absolutes. And you're right. Often, there are incremental changes that go largely unnoticed until things reach a tipping point and "suddenly" the Berlin Wall comes down.
Mahalo for the sanity and clarity.
I am taking a trip out to Hawaii and have heard of these places, but not exactly sure what they are.
Is this like a massage parlor where there can be extras or is the only thrill having the hot girl with you? I tried to Google "What is a Korean bar Honolulu" without much success.
I am a contributor on the Tampa and St. Petersburg Florida boards if people want to check. PMs are fine too.
Thank you.

Thank you.
I guess there's no Korean Bars in Tampa and Florida. It's basically a hostessbar with mainly Korean women that you buy $20 ladies drinks and they sit next to you.

But the jukeboxes, karaoke machines, and bar-top games make the house a few bux. Food from the kitchen makes some money too. $7 french fries? $10 vienna sausage? $15 for a steak of dubious provenance? Small stuff, but mo' money, mo' money.
Of late, the illegal gambling machines that seem to be in every second bar are bringing in serious revenue. There is one small bar that I am told *loses* money on bar operations, but clears a profit off just a few of those machines.
None of this is meant to say these things are necessarily gold mines. Just that they *can* be profitable, despite a cursory analysis. One has to be smart, alert, and frankly, ruthless. I know this firsthand. I was once a regular customer of a then-young KBG. She noted that it was easy to make money in the bar to the extent that she was quitting her day job. After a while, she asked me to help her run a bar. I told her to work as a bartender for a least a year before thinking about doing this. I told her to use the time to learn how a bar runs. Well or badly as might be the case.
To her credit, she did this and I did the recon for her and met with several bar owners looking to lease out for a while. She chose one and signed the deal.
I warned her not to go out of her way and try and be kind to people. Told her she would lose respect. Also told her to manage the girls well and that they would make money for her. Never do beer specials as margins are too small there. Push shots, as they move fast and margins are higher.
Short story is that she didn't follow my advice. She laid out a great (free) house pupu spread every day. Even would feed smelly homeless dudes who took up two seats with their crap. Then as things slowed as they do after a grand opening, she started working the floor to try and bring in more money. Warned her not to do this. She thought I was just being jealous. What this did was to take business away from her working girls who started to leave for other, more lucrative bars.
Side effect of this is that the remaining girls resorted to their own enterprise to make a living wage. One was doing guys for under-the-table cash. Another started raiding the till by not ringing up all drinks.
In all, she came in under the break-even point. Today, she says she will never again try to run a bar but still works as a bartender.
(Apologies for a long-winded post.)

Thank you.
One thing guaranteed in a Korean Bar. If you sit with a girl you'll spend roughly $100 per hour buying her drinks (minimum). That's it. Nothing else. On occasion guys do get more but rarely. So you can go to the KB for a couple of hours and spend $200 to pay a girl to laugh at all your jokes or you can go to an Asian Massage Parlor (AMP) and choose who you like. Pay $50 to the house and $150 to the girl and get a table shower, massage, and full service for 1 hour. Then go to the Korean Bar. Sit at the bar and pay $3 a beer to view all the eye-candy. The choice is yours.

I'm sure there is a whole lot of stress involved. If not runned properly everything can go down quick. Noice during these hard times only the old time mamas are hanging in there. That is cause they are constantly trying to upkeep and improve their business. A lot of the newer mamas today feel like the bar will sell itself and those are the ones we see constantly changing names. So don't feel too bad, its a lot of work.

And no. We don't have those bars here. We do have a good amount of AMP and some good variety there. Of course many of those have Koreans working there.

In the beginning, I felt it was just a waste of time and money. But, I find it to be exciting actually. Most people who don't go hostess bars wouldn't understand.
Oh WOW!"The" Choi is back?
Went in the other day and seen Choi but didn't part take yet. She said she cancelled her Korea trip for surgery. I also seen another older hostess long black hair and big fake tits. Any name on that one? ALSO what happened to the infamous Kyong that worked there? Where did she go? M10
And as a young hobbyist, I thought it must be so cool to run such a bar, staffed with caring, beautiful girls in G-strings that highlighted their fabulous bodies.
One night I got to talking with the owner and made that comment; he corrected me by briefly saying what "a headache" it was (from various causes). At the time, I was surprised but as the years went by and I observed the goings-on in more and more hostess bars, I saw his point.
There are other bars on life support. I figure only a matter of time before club business dies. The existing tomorrow location wasn't a money maker so after the money train runs dry who knows what will happen there.
With the slow / bad economy the bars just need to keep their heads above the water until footbal season (hopefully). The only problem is that it may take years before the bar scene recovers.
Times are changing and you are running out of suckas willing to buy "good luck" drinks. The Relaxation Parlors have taken your business away. I can go to a AMP for $190-200, be in a private room with a pretty girl both of us naked, for 1 hour (more like 45 minutes average) , and we enjoy our bodies and she does her best to satisfy me.
Suggestion: Use your "rooms" for relaxation, with standard rates, $50 HJ, $100 BJ, $150 FS, or $50 room fee and do away with the champagne. You will still make money on the regular drinkers, and we would very much like to interact with girls before going to the back room. The first bar to do this will be overflowing. Bypass the liquor laws by putting in a toilet and sink and call it a "rest" room, or put in a bed intended for drunks to detox before going home.
Ton opso? Innovation, technology, marketing, productivity, what service can I provide, what do the chumps want?

Thank you.
If you want guaranteed action, go to a AMP. If you want to try for almost guaranteed action, try a Viet bar / strip club such as Cache, Misty 1 or Red Rose. They are all on Kona Street.
Found out who the BG is who smokes outside during day shift with the dresses: name is Annie (L=5; 34C; 5'08"). Not a KBG; possibly a CBG who has that mixed foreign / mainland accent for her English. Quiet, determined hustler for the nekos who works the joint well (generic BG). Looks better from a distance.
