I too was using a trac phone before moving to google voice.

Just create a new gmail account then sign up for google voice (free).

The only negative I would have to say is that you need to be somewhat technically proficient to use it properly. It took me some testing / trial to get it so that any time I use my hobby number my personal number isn't revealed. Also, I have had poor luck with sending / receiving photos via text on google voice. So if that is part of your game. It may not work for you.

But it sure does beat having to reload my trac phone and also having to (possibly) answer why I have 2 phones.
