Yes. "AAA" refers to an area north of Denny Way on 6th Avenue where the American Automobile Association office used to be.

"KK" refers to the corner of 125th and Aurora. Go there and you will understand.

"DP" refers to Denny Park.

In the City of Seattle, approximately 9,000 automobiles are stolen a year. The Washington State Crime Information Computer has an average of 13,700 stolen cars listed within it. The Seattle Police Department has 1,500 license plates listed on their hot sheet daily.

Currently patrol officers have a variety of ways to identify stolen vehicles. They may be attempting to stop a car for an entirely unrelated reason and find that the car is listed as stolen when they radio their stop into communications. They also carry a hard copy of the "hot sheet", which is updated daily, listing all the license plates of all cars reported stolen, or they can run a plate through their in-car computer. Unfortunately most of these take a considerable amount of time and are typically only done when there are obvious suspicious behaviors occurring.

WHAT IS THE LICENSE PLATE RECOGNITION CAMERA?

There is emerging new technology that will allow patrol officers to be much more efficient and hopefully successful in locating and arresting individuals who are stealing cars. The technology is License Plate Recognition and works much like a camera. It is installed on a Patrol Vehicle and automatically takes "digital" pictures of the license plates on the vehicles that the patrol car is passing. If the license plate that was read is listed as a stolen vehicle or is flagged for any other reason, the officer is notified that they have just passed a "vehicle of interest."

The computer has the ability to read up to 1,000 plates per hour, it covers two or more lanes of traffic at once, can read the plates during day and at night. It also takes less than one second from the time a vehicle is in the field of view to a determination it is a "vehicle of interest". When a vehicle is identified and audible warning is sounded and the vehicle is imaged, time stamped and registered.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF THIS TECHNOLOGY?

There are many advantages to using this technology, the most obvious being the speed in which the computer can work. On average thousands of plates can be scanned during a shift where an individual officer may get only 100 plates during a shift (if they are focused exclusively on traffic). The technology is also performing a task that is already permitted only doing it much more efficiently. Overall the technology will realize some very important goals:

It will increase the number of stolen cars recovered by the police department, before those cars are dumped or trashed and left by the car thief.

It will increase the number of offenders who are ultimately arrested and prosecuted for the crime of auto theft.

And ultimately, it will reduce the number of cars stolen because auto thieves will soon learn that it is much harder to go undetected by law enforcement.

I have a few friends in the industry two of which work at what's call TSMC which is the main opperations center of the WSDOT on Dayton ave and 160th. .I have had many discussions on this and the reply always is "the technology is there but they CANNOT afford the sofware and the manpower it takes to do facial and car/license recognition" I am told there are City's considering this but the expense is too high right now.With that said I have a wait and see attitude.But for fun next time you are at a Circuit City take a look up appox. 3 feet inside the doors where the alarm gates are, at those cameras.Those cameras ARE THE type that do track faces people ETC. they are independent cameras from the main system, that goes back to a special DVR that SOMETIMES HAS the sofware. The main part of the DVR sofware is for customer analisis they can tell how tall appox. age and weight. THe enhanced version has the Facial recognition with a database of "Problem people at the stores"

Pretty active night last night after midnight. Spotted Chanel and a freind of her's (never have seen her). There a blonde in tan capris carrying a backpack that looked a lot like Desera. She's still very nice though. I wouldn't have hesitated to date her if she had been working. Also, picked up Hurricane Alison Friday night. She is still a lot of fun even though she was high as a kite. If the past two years is any indication she'll be out of jail for a week or two and then go back in for 3 or 4 months. Oddly enough, within days of the CL board going down, there have been 4 new boards pop up to attempt to fill the void. But if I recall Jackson doesn't allow links or directions to competing websites so I'm going to respect that.

I was thinking that if there was a "nuisance" in an area I would just program one of these to tell me , say, how many vehicles cruise past this camera more frequently than others, or , say, more than ten times in an evening. There's no law against sight-seeing and I do that much more than monger. but you get my drift here.

One of the seniors on the now defunct board got stopped by SPD after 3 laps through the AAA and got a ticket for cruising. Now I think he probably can beat it in court, but what a hassle.

My friend is coming from San Fran. Im not into it but he is staying downtown and he knows that I vist the local hotspots when I have visited on bussiness and I would like to return the favor for him. Civ is right. They will get you for not stopping completely at a stop sign or not using your blinker, some other minor traffic violation. The effect is the same, harassment. Now all this stuff is easy to make go away, but takes time, and if you're married, an explanation for why you would be in that area at that time of night if she sees the ticket.

Holly Mooly Batman. Pac Hwy was off the hook. 9...count’em...9 SW out and about at quit'n time. Not all chunks either. 4 of them were good looking WSW'ers. Went from south of Seattle to Everett on old 99, at rush hour, all I saw was cars and stop lights. Boring trip.

Picked up Allison on the Denny stroll tonight at about 11PM. She got right in and did the usual checks. She says that she is 29 y/o, but she looks more like 20ish or younger. Settled on .3 for BJ. I dont think so, Crack monster Jennifer started around 1996-97 when she was 16-17 years old I have enclosed a pic. She started she hovering around 40th and Aurora then later made the move downtown.

PS. I didnt know how old she was until several years later.

I was down on Pac Hwy doing some work and decided to take a few laps up and down the track from 205th down to 272nd. There were a couple BSW out, but I have been burned once too many times of late by one...so I pass on em. So, I was about to turn on the ol' pre-paid phone and call up someone as I came up on the K/D line. That is when I noticed a ASW hanging out by the dollar store. I was curious, so I went over and gave her a nod. Bingo! I was pretty dang surprised and pumped too. She wasn’t the hottest girl I have ever picked up, but she was cool. If it was in an area known for SW's then there's a good chance she could be working. Soliciting a civillian can only cause us
uneeded problems. There are few better ways to get the cops to crack down then to start soliciting every girl we see. The best thing to do is to simply say hello to the girl. If there is any chance she is then she will clue you in (You might want to try this with the possible SW you saw the other day. You should try pulling over first, because sometimes a pro will get irritated and avoid you.) This is the courteous and responsible way to handle the situation.
