Opinions vary, based on personal experience.

BB says [b]"most CL gals"[/b]. Fine. I interpret that as meaning "gals who advertise".

To me, and the basis for my reply which you allowed to obviously get stuck in your craw, "CL gals" also include the girls who do not advertise, but read and respond to ads.

In my experience, (which I admit is anecdotal) there may be many more who read/respond to ads than place ads. I say this because when a girl responds to me I ask (market research) "do you place ads?". I'd say 90% say no.

So MY universe of "CL gals" is much larger than BB's.

So, in the spirit of intellectual honesty and peace, let's say we are both correct. The difference is my universe of "CL gals" is much larger than BB's.

Fair enough? I do not want to encroach on Senior Member turf. I acquiesce to seniority.

80% of the CL posts are phishing scams - that's why they want email replies.

My criteria for a bonafide CL post is that they contain a photo & telephone number. Also most genuine providers list their locaton, services & rates.

When contacting provider remember a couple of things. A real provider will NEVER talk specifics. You're just setting up a date. They will be vague and talk in "codes" like "180 roses for full-service/incall with multiple cups" or "125 diamonds for half-hour french lessons"

You should be able to understand them just fine.

Use some common sense! If a post (A COMPLETE STRANGER) wants you to reply by email they are BSing you. The fake posts on CL "troll" for responses. When the "phish" bites (answers) they've got you. Now you get Cialis/Viagra, "Free" DVDs, penis enlargement and low mortgage rates up your wazoo.

In other words, its better to sometimes unfairly eliminate a legitimate ad than to make the opposite mistake and let an illegitimate ad sneak through and then either at best have your e-mail box wind up filled with spam or at worst spending a couple of hundred bucks on a provider who turns out to not deliver.

I think Chef Enzo's suggestions are a good starting point, even if not completely foolproof, on how one can at least improve one's odds when filtering through CL. Maybe you'll let some good ones get away, but of the ones you do leave for consideration your overall odds of success will be greatly improved.

That said, I'm still not completely sold on the CL erotic service ad section. Okay, you've narrowed down the hundreds of ads down to a few that aren't obvious phishers and are what Chef Enzo calls "real". The next steps are:
a) how to figure out which ones have fake pictures, or at least way out-of-date pictures?
b) when they really are an agency or have a pimp or driver and will expect to run out to the car once they get your money to give to that drive but wind up just taking off?
c) when flat rate full service means flat for showing up and just jacking you off or a lackluster cbj and extra tips "all always appreciated" means you'll have to shell out more if you want them to take their top off or let you touch their tittys?
d) when flat rate full service really means flat rate full service but that service is lackluster at best (cbj, rushed, business-like, mechanical, no touching tittys because "they're too sensitive", multiple positions means the 2 that they don't find too "uncomfortable", and when the full hour ends as soon as you pop your load even if it is only a half hour into the session)?
or
e) the "real deal" really does mean the real deal and you can expect GFE service with a girl who really does look as good as her pics and performs as good as her "reviews"

Unfortunately, most of the reviews on CL are warnings rather than endorsements and even those are often flagged by the providers so that they disappear. Most of the providers who advertise there have no discernable reviews there or anywhere, witness the fact that you have so many inquiries at sites like this one about some of the ads with no one responding to them. At other sites like TER or TBD, when there are reviews they're often somewhat suspect. For example, 3 regular CL advertisers that have been asked about here that have a single positive review by unknown posters at TER. One of them is Alissa who 2 months ago went by the name Lexus and 2 months before that by the name Kylie. If her service is really so good and she were really developing sucha great reputation, why would she want to change her working name? The other two, who look too hot to be true are Kim and Skyy. You check out the ads and look up the TER ads and judge for yourselves. For my part, I'm going to wait until there is a little more positive press about them.

Another annoying thing is that once you've found a few ads that you feel are worth more serious investigation and you do your research and find good reviews, there is still no guarantee that you'll be able to hook up. I finally decided to give Mandy a call tonight only to discover that her phone "is no longer in service" which is really weird because her last ad was only this past Friday. Maybe she had it disconnected because she was inundated with calls after her positive press here. No problem, I noticed that Barbie Love had placed another ad this morning with a $150/hr special with no tel# just a request to "e-mail for more info". I tried calling anyway, both numbers that I got off her old website, one "invalid" and the other "temporarily not in service". Is it really her ad or just someone using her photos to harvest e-mails? I don't really know. The rate seems too good to believe but I dropped her an e-mail at her yahoo address anyway.

Point taken Chase, and I agree. In fact, as I noted below, I am probably the most paranoid, careful monger on here...to the point that I rarely actually partake. This is due to a combo of fear of LE and fear of "other things" (being jacked, ripped off, stalked, whatever).

The old adage "better safe than sorry" is a good one in this hobby, IMO.

The key is forcing your thought processes to use the Big Head. Keep the little one in a virtual cage and unleash him when all is OK. If you can't master that, it's inevitable some bad mojo will eventually go down...

I understand the risk escalate significantly if you're married.

I find UTR's to be MUCH safer than true pro's. I also have found the sex to generally be better with them, more time, less $$$ (in fact, often the quid-pro-quo is gone), real GFE (not faked), etc. Usually they have as much to lose as you, a job, humiliation to family and friends, etc. When a girl crosses over to the pro side, she has not much to lose anymore. And when a girl posts a pic or has a website, she's past the point of no return.

Just mt humble thoughts.

I was around for that ugly time in our history, Drew. I, honestly, think the only reason I never got dragged into anything was that I'm single and self-employeed. With no wife, kids, boss or co-workers to dangle over my head, I was, pretty much, worthless to the OFC goal, which was to scare people.

I would have been on the stand begging for contempt charges and defying them the entire way.

Since I couldn't be frightened by "Oh my God! You wouldn't really tell my wife, would you???" Or "Oh please, officer, I can't have my christian boss find out!!! I'll tell you anything you want to hear!!!" I was worthless to them. I'd have just played dumb the whole way, admitting I knew what ever girl they brought up and denied ever paying for sex the whole time. Maybe even pulled a Charlie Sheen and say I was paying her to leave when we were done.

That entire thing was a fiasco, destined to never see the light of day in court but it did what they wanted it to do. The chilling effects are still felt around these parts to this day.

Anyone who's been around long enough has to admit that the pickings in the Bay area aren't what they were five years ago.

They wanted the message logs from the old site to see what good old spocko was doing as he had been trying to intimidate witnesses through his postings. That's one ass-clown that I would still like to pummel and pull his arms out of their sockets!

I was subpoenaed to testify and had a few 'nice' meetings with Det. Bowling and Ast. State Attorney Brown (he looked like a kid). Scary stuff and it forever changed the way I look at and use message boards on the internet. I read posts on other sites were providers and their 'friends' publicly announce meet & greets and it still sends shivers up and down my spine.
