If you bring in your own phone or buy the phone upfront, unlimited talk, text and 2 gb data would be at around $65-$70/ month. They throttle (slow down your mobile data) when you reach close to your 2 GB data a month. Most people I know who have AT&T plans either have unlimited talk, text and 2 GB data individual plans or, they share a family plan with 10 - 15 GB of data. My former coworker who has the family plan has 4 lines with 10 -15 GB of shared data for like $160/ month.

You iz right. I am grandfathered into this "UNLIMITED EVERYTHING" plan- it used to cost $50, (for just one line), made a decision to go family plan, now, got to change it up due to female dramas. I talked to AT&T and they said for just 2 lines, going be about $150. Get this; yes, I can drop the biatch and _STILL_ keep my grandfathered plan- but at a cost of approx $100/ month.

I'm listening to suggestions, but yes, what you said is correct. This plan is golden, and 4 G LTE speed anywhere on the island is crip.

Just wondering if get others out there with similar plans (or close to it) at a cheaper cost. $100/ month could be used for mongering!

Mine is 30 bucks a month no contract, 5 Gigs of 4G LTE which I haven't gotten close to getting throttled yet. Bad thing is some girls check and they think I'm someone else with a history because these numbers get recycled.

If you're talking about the unlimited data plans that were offered with the original iphone, AT&T's been found to throttle data at 5 GB. The FTC is taking them to court over it.

The only carrier that's offering unlimited is T-Mobile someone mentioned that they "throttle", but that's a misnomer. T-Mobile does what's called data deprioritization if someone goes over a set amount of data. Let's say my phone is connected to a cell tower and I'm over the data threshold. If anyone else is on that tower, my data needs will come after the other users on the tower that have not gone over that threshold to manage the traffic in the tower. If people move to a different tower or your signal moves to a different tower, your speeds may go back to normal.

True throttling means that after the data cap set by carrier, data will be, well, throttled. In the case of AT&T, it'll be slower than dial-up service no matter what the traffic is like on a tower.

So what's the threshold if you're on T-Mobile and you're worried about getting your data deproritized? 21 GB. ([URL]http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/scnc-individual/jcr:content/legal-disclaimers-footer.html[/URL]).

T-Mobile is threatening to throttle some excessive users, but in this case the issue is about tethering some users are bypassing the networks checks in place to essentially provide boradband services to their home networks off LTE for an extended amount of time (in some cases, racking up 2 TB of usage) which the TOS of every mobile carrier forbids.

I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile because AT&T kept on making hints that they didn't want unlimited data customers on their network any longer. I was also throttled on AT&T on several occasions. T-Mobile service in LA wasn't as good as AT&T, but I didn't find myself missing AT&T either. In fact, in many cases, my data up / down speeds were faster than AT&T. I haven't had any problems with T-Mob on Oahu in fact, T-Mobile's network is built on VoiceStream's old network, and that's been around for about 20 years.

That being said, T-Mobile is notorious for bad coverage in rural areas, but to be fair, I hate camping and I hate "getting away" from civilization, so my idea of fun is not going to the middle of nowhere. T-Mobile's signal also has a problem with penetration in buildings because it primarily uses the 1. 9 Ghz band; however, the company's been buying blocks of 700 Mhz spectrum for LTE signals that have twice the range and better penetration (LTE Band 12).

It's also important to keep in mind that people regularly throw around the word "throttling" without appreciating the nomenclature (throttling vs. Data deprioritzation), or that wireless data transmission and receiving has many variables involved, from the design of the base station to the antennas on the phones to even the weather, and that Hawaii's data backbone just plain sucks. The fiber running to Hawaii has needed an upgraded or years. Hawaii's also not a high priority for anyone running a high trafficked website, so the datacenters and some cases, DNS are resolved on the mainland have to be looped back to Honolulu. In other words, there can be a lot of latency because you live in Hawaii.

Granted, I moved to T-Mobile a year ago, but the last time I checked with AT&T they were ok with me keeping my unlimited data plan from the original iPhone if I upgraded to the iPhone 6 Plus, I just wouldn't have tethering and I'd have to stay on a contract / phone subsidy plan.

I believe Verizon made its users give up their unlimited data if they upgraded their phone.

Turnover rate at these cell companies is terrible. I can never remember a name nor face!) all tell me, "whoa, you have an awesome plan. You def can upgrade your phone, but do NOT upgrade your plan. No ways. Like braddah HornySamowen put it, I am locked (grandfathered) into a 2009 unlimited everything plan; the cost just went up from $50 to $100 over the course of 7 years. (Inflation? (if I kick the HO off my family plan and fly solo). So actually I've went from the 3 GS, (skipped the 4), 5, and now 6+. (Again, I have the latest iPhone in my original topic post).

At Mobius.

I find Honolulu has pretty spotty T-Mobile coverage especially in certain areas around Aiea or once you get above a certain floor in various high rise condo complexes in town. I keep them anyways because, as with you, they are cheap but that's about it.

I'm actually surprised to hear it sucks for others. But again I don't go everywhere due to my limited traveling range as a caveman.

I did check out others such as AT & T but the numbers got high enough to where I started equating it in my mind to AMP Session Equivalents, though I couldn't tell the salesguy that. I do have an older phone but not too old and the new models (they will ALWAYS be coming out with an N + 1 model) really are of no benefit to me, yet cost hundreds more. The one I have is already more than enough, and even with all the BP hunting I do, have a lot of headroom left on the data usage.

I like the conclusion in your equation, Hinode; that's what it all comes down to after the money is spent, reports written, dust settles, etc.

I've been in the hobby for awhile. I've spent time (and money) with some outstanding providers, as well as some truly terrible ones. I have a few regrets, but nothing I lose sleep over.

I've never been arrested or caught by friends or family. I'm not out of money. I'm just tired.

I realized last night that I have simply had enough of this for now and I'm taking a hiatus from the hobby.

I'm tired of the endless nonsense and provider drama. I'm sick of being demonized by politicians who are just out for votes and campaign contributions. I'm just sick of it all.

So, I'm taking a break. It may be permanent or just temporary. I don't know.

I'll check my pm box every so often, but that's about it.
