One time, I actually felt like my life was in danger, but I got out of it by staring down her bf / pimp / handler. Whatever you want to call him and making my escape.

After that, I started being very discerning with who I saw, Googled them before agreeing to meet, AND asking them point blank if they had a criminal record. Of course, all of them said no. However, in my searches, I found two women who had recently been released from prison for breaking and entering, one for armed robbery, and another with a felony count of kidnapping with the intent to extort. I forget the exact wording.
