Just wanted to thank everyone here for my recent successes. For those who have read my previous posts, you would know I was a "negotiate over text" with very little success rate. Well, I have seen the light! Based on your all feedback, I have saved the ask for in the room and thus far am 5 for 7, and the two that declined were very polite about it (as opposed to my nightmare thoughts of how they might respond). If only I knew sooner. Anyway, here are some things I have learned:
1) Ask in the room (pretty much the topic here).
2) They really don't like us discussing it here (three of them mentioned that they stopped offering for a while after they were "outed" due to the surge of asks that followed).
3) Play it cool, if it happens, great, if not. Consider it a small investment, or pretend you are in Vegas and just made a small side bet.
4) Have tests at the ready.
5) Have at least double their normal donation at the ready.
Oh, and maybe this helps someone that is still nervous about asking; a gambit if you will. Now she is going to make up her mind on her own, so again, this is just to help make the ask sound more natural (it helped me at least). I brought my "favorite" condoms with me and after pleasantries, pulled them out and said "I brought these" showing her the condoms, ". And I also brought my recent tests. Was curious if you might have a no condom option?" I don't know, like I said, just made the ask feel more natural and I think had the added effect of letting them know this was not something I was demanding, just asking for (since I came prepared for the answer to be no), part of that play it cool I mentioned.
