I knew a guy that played the recovery houses, he said they always come back because they are addicted to tricking. At the time it fucked my mind up. After years of being addicted and running the streets, I cannot not imagine most would have the right mindset to have a basic enough work ethic to show up for a regular job 5 days a week 8 hours a day.
I would guess after getting clean, they just can't quite do it. So, they revert back to what they know is a sure thing to get money in a crunch, which puts them into recidivism and proximity to their familiar vices. Like a sober alcoholic being around other people drinking. It a temptation that is hard to resist.

One that pops into my head is Ashley used to have red hair worked out by DD / Rofo. Had a video on the Charm City site which I think got taken down.
