For our own good eh? Let's see, get robbed by shady provider and / or thug, lose some cash, maybe credit cards that can be cancelled. Get "protected" by LEO by being arrested, probably lose more cash in court costs and fines, could lose job, spouse / significant other, etc.
They aren't going to prevent mongers from going to providers by making some arrests, at least not in the long run. As such, they aren't going to protect the ones they claim to be protecting. So, this is just going to make victims even less likely to report being robbed / assaulted. If you don't lose your life to the thugs, you have way more to lose by going to LEO than chalking it up to a lesson learned and keeping your mouth shut. I'm sure they are smart enough to figure that out. This is just a way for them to look like they are doing something to benefit society and make some money for the city and lawyers in the process.
