Foreign girls are 99.9% of the time scammers on that site. Asking for gift cards, again huge red flag. And finally, WhatsApp is generally another scammer red flag. I've yet to meet a single real person on that site who actually used or requested WhatsApp contact. Most send me their real number to text / call and a Snapchat account for pics occasionally. But, glad you didn't fall for the deposit and send anything. Like you said, I'm sure a lot of guys would have or already have. Those scams obviously work since it's just a numbers game. It basically creates a virtual webcam and connects a video file as a video stream to virtual camera, Whatsapp would still detect it as a hardware webcam. This has been a thing on PCs for a while now. Not sure if it's doable on mobile devices as well these days. (Most likely on Android devices.).

I just searched webcam spoofing and found altercam. Easy stuff.
