Now say you get your SO an iPad and use the same Apple-ID for online purchases. You have to be very careful, or your conversions are automatically synced onto all of "your" (by Apple-I'd) devices. O_O! Fortunately I prefer very discrete providers and I'm very discrete in my messages as well.

That exact situation came up. Wife gets iPad and even though I make sure iCloud is always off the syncing can occur. She has own Apple ID now. But what would prevent her from changing to mine and reading all my anonymous, incriminating gmails? Hasn't happened yet or I would be divorced. Being very careful with the iPhone is good advice.

Even if you're only active using your hobby phone, it's still wise to completely power down your personal phone when on a date, or at least put it in airplane mode.
