From my personal experience, I've still been able to find hidden "talent" just by taking a few minutes to do a "interview" prior to the experience. From decades of mongering, I can count the # of "bad" experiences I've had because I learned to "negotiate". I really found out about the "art of negotiation" by traveling abroad where there is a difference in language. Now it takes time to learn, because you have to be comfortable in your approach, and willing to "pass" on certain opportunities that you may deem (at the time), essential; so you will need some sort of discipline and set boundaries. Now since we are the "consumer", I've learned to be straight forward, but tactful with my demands; that way a lot of time isn't wasted. I feel-out the situation with the response that I receive and go from there. I had to learn that I needed to control the "narrative", plus it also allowed me the "break the ice" and take some of the stress out of a "initial meeting". I recently had a outstanding experience with someone, that just by looking at her "exterior"; I would never consider. She looked like a "vagrant boy" at first glance.
