TAMPA - Police seized more than $24,000 and arrested two people during an investigation at a South Tampa massage spa Thursday.
Joo Kim, 46, and Mee Yung Pak, 43, gave undercover officers deep tissue massages without being licensed by the state to do so, Sgt. James Contento said.
Kim and Pak were charged with felony unlicensed practice of a health care profession. Pak also was charged with offering sex for money, a misdemeanor.
The raid at The Gold Spa, 3637 S. Dale Mabry Highway, took place at 2:10 p.m. Thursday.
Officers found $24,157 cash in a wicker basket, Contento said. Nobody claimed ownership, so officers seized the money.
Kim's bail was set at $2,000. Pak's bail was set at $2,250. Each has been released.

Well I have not been to Osaka on Hills or Japanese Spa on Kennedy, which one would be better for my next trip?
I have read the board but the last Japanese Spa report I saw was a little while back. Any new information on it and Osaka?
Or is there somwhere better that I should try? I see Osaka is not getting the same high marks it used to.
Pass on Osaka my friend. It's a big waste of money now. Oh how I long for the good old days......

I forgot to put in my last post that I did go to Gold Spa again about a week ago.
It's not that I am in love with this place, it's just that I seem to keep getting into Tampa after 2AM and they are open 24HR's.
Anyway I will not post details because it seems this place is getting hit alot and there is nothing new to report anyway still the same as last visit.

I will get into Tampa about 6-7Pm not as late as last time, which was after 2AM and only left Gold Spa as a place that was open.
It would be nice to go to a new place this time so give me your thoughts.

Hey, when I counted it there was over 40K in the basket! What a racket! If you claim it then you admit you're a ***** or running a whorehouse or something and you lose your life savings. No, it is quite reasonable. This is a cash business. How many guys walk in the throw down an American Express or Visa card? And what about the "tips"? You're not going to write her a check, are you?
These places do not make end of the day bank deposits. Heck, I'd be surprised if the even had a bank account. If they did it was only used to cover rent, Tribune ads, and the glitzy ad in Nightmoves. The rest of the money gets fed back into the Korean massage parlor "machine".

You are correct for the most part Drew. Most men do not want to use a credit or debit card because it leaves a paper trail for them if married, and for those who are not as well. The providers aren't happy about the tips being on cards because they have to wait for it and there are sometimes differences of opinion on whether there are tips due or not due on the settlement of the card charges. Most card charges are settled by the card merchant once a week. And that money definitely goes in to a bank account.
The reason for keeping the cash on hand is fairly simple. Very, very few of the workers or managers have automobiles or even licenses. Some work for owners who do have cars and those owners shop each week for food for the workers and do any other errands that need to be done. Considering the location of the spa in question, it is a bit of a stretch to walk to a bank so the cash was probably kept on hand until the owner gets there to take his or her cut. All of it might have been the owner's, or the cash may have also been part of the money earned by the workers. Some will wire the money to family in Korea, to family in the US, or to a trusted friend in the US to deposit in the worker's bank account at home but the workers have the same problem - what to do with the cash until it can be spent or sent to family. In any event, the cash is pretty much kept on the premises. The more experienced managers/workers/owners who have been through this before find ways to hide the cash. The story on the confiscation did not say where the wicker basket was located. It might have been in plain sight or it might have been sitting behind the dumpster outside. I think, though, that we all agree it was too much cash to keep on hand. I still remember the story about J Spa having their door kicked in and getting robbed.
As for the Korean AMP machine, I'm not sure what that means. I have had a few personal relationships with these ladies and I've not yet found an instance where the workers had to give up any of their money to anyone else, except to contribute each week for food and to the manager, who is not paid by the owner.
I've also had a relationship with an owner and she has been able to keep the money she's earned from the business. There may very well be organized AMPS but I haven't met or known anyone yet who is part of a larger organization.
All in all, I'd speculate that this particular AMP will always be under scrutiny based on its track record over the past 12 or 13 months whether it is sold, put under new management, or even if it finds a way to fly under the radar.

It is the Korean network that supports such entrepreneurial endeavors. As you know the girls come from all over the country - NY, California... Money is recycled back to it - not necessarily from the girl's pocket but from AMP profits.

It's not like the mafia, but mamasan knows who to call to get girls and those persons know how to get them there.
My friend who is an owner does not send her money to anyone. And I've been with her at times when she has called women directly to ask for them to come work for her. I'm sure there are individuals who will act on behalf of those looking for a new gig, but it's not the only game in town. I have a friend who just up one day and left the employment of my owner friend. She worked for a short period of time on the west coast and then went to work in Arizona. She has not set a time frame but wants to come back east and just spend some time enjoying life with the money she's earning. I'm sure there are some organized operations but my experiences lead me to believe it's not nearly as prevalent as LE and the media would like us all to think. My owner friend worked in the business, left it to buy a non AMP business, sold it after a couple of years and used the proceeds to put a down payment on the AMP she now owns. She entered into an agreement to pay the rest of the purchase price in monthly payments to the previous owner. Neither sends any money to another entity. Whatever is left over at the end of the month is theirs and they spend it accordingly. I believe the K girls have it far better than other nationalities that work in the business. I'm not so sure about the Russian and Hispanic massage providers though.
