We arrived at the base around 11:00, before the opening ceremony. All cars were directed to park on the tarmac on the North West corner of the runway. In previous years cars filled up this lot then many open fields all over the base. So attendance is down to about ¼ to 1/3 previous years. Who knows the cause?
UBER was denied entry into the base to drop off near the runway. A bro had to walk in from the gate to the runway, about 1 mile. It was not too bad and he had a chance to take the scenic route to see the base.
The main events were the USMC VTOL F-35 B, F / A-18 in simulated ground attack, US Airforce F-16 Viper. RAF's Red Arrows flew 8 BAE Hawk trainer jets with 4 more pares.
Static display was smaller than previous year, the largest plane was a C-17 Cargo master, a huge EA-6 Growler, Navy's elec countermeasure and all weather medium bomber, 2 F-35 Bs with dual weapon bays open, a newly refurbed B-29 and a bunch of smaller planes and helicopters. Missing were the huge B-52 and C-5, lots of smaller jets, vintage prop planes and lots of drones.
Overall the flying was as beautiful and exciting as ever with the convenience of nearby parking. The fighter jets did some beautiful aerobatic and formation flying with the new jets doing interesting high speed and low speed maneuvering, tight turns at high speed with no more than 2,000 ft radius.
Marine aircrews were stationed near their planes to explain their systems. Marines troops doing traffic direction were clean cut young boys and girls, fun, polite, cordial, a few girls look very attractive in their combat uniforms, made me want to sign up hehe. It's sad to think they have to spend many days of hard work setting up the show then cleaning up afterwards.
Looking forward to the US Airforce Thunderbirds show next weekend in Huntington Beach.

Just park off Beach Blvd and take the $2 OC bus #29 to the beach in front of the Hilton and Hyatt Regency. You can watch the show from a number of bars and cafes near the hotels, but it's much more exciting to see them up close on the beach.

If You can find space on the beach, you can sit for free anywhere near the grand stand. The beach was pretty packed. There were millions people on it with shades.
