I had an odd problem yesterday. In April I got a six-month visa, which would have expired in October. Yesterday, I crossed at the San Ysidro pedestrian entrance. I took the shuttle to HK as I always do and on the way there and on the way back both nights the Mexican police had tons of people pulled over. I'm not sure if it was because of the holiday or not but every corner we turned, there was another cop pulling over someone. Even the shuttle drivers were surprised by it. Just wanted to share this and to let everyone know to be careful if driving or taking a taxi to HK, taxis were getting pulled over as well.

I was alone and heading to USA When a motorcycle cop pulled me over in the final glorietta (traffic rotary) before the SENTRI line (Blvd Padre Kino). Fuckin cop said I made a wrong turn while I was in the rotary. He told me he would write a traffic citation but that the cashier at the police office is closed, so they would have to impound my car overnight until I could pay the ticket, OR I could pay the fine on the spot. I ran the scenario over with my Mexican friend and she said the cashier at the police stations are open 24/7. That I should've demanded a citation and paid at the station. The problem I see with that, as a gringo, is I think demanding a citation could escalate the situation and piss the cop off. What if the cop then "finds" a bag of weed in your car, or something along those lines. My takeaway is don't have a wad of cash in your pocket. If you're packing cash pack the majority in your sock and just keep $40 or so in your pocket. If you had a dash cam would you have the balls to point it at them?

I would have done the same thing in this set of circumstances. Like you said, who knows what a pissed off cop may "find" that would then "justify" impounding your car. However, I would not find myself in this situation because I would not be driving across the border for the reason that something like this could happen. Sure, you could also get pulled over in a taxi or HK shuttle (which I usually take), but at least you are not risking your car. Took my first Tijuana trip this week and finally checked out Hong Kong. Crossed the border on foot near the Jack in the Box, grabbed a quick legit massage first, then headed over. Stayed at the hotel attached to HK, which was super convenient.

Stayed at HK's hotel myself on a Monday also not too long ago. I opted for the jacuzzi room which came out to $36 for the night with VIP card.
