MONSON - A liquor license hearing will be held on April 25 for the Magic Lantern strip bar, following allegations that two exotic dancers offered undercover policemen sex in exchange for cash.
Selectman Richard E. Guertin said the board is the town's licensing authority, and can vote to take no action or modify, revoke or suspend the club's license.
Selectman Edward S. Harrison said the hearing will give Lantern management "an opportunity to explain." The Board of Selectmen set the hearing date at their meeting last night.
Two dancers were arrested at the Boston Road bar March 17 after an investigation by agents from the Eastern Hampden County Drug Task Force.
In a letter to selectmen, Police Chief Stephen Kozloski Jr. said that management has "tentatively agreed" that the two women arrested will no longer be allowed on the premises.
"They have also tentatively agreed to prohibit all use of the closed section of the bar by any employees or patrons. Employees who negotiate 'private dances' will be required to use the glass enclosed 'VIP' room at the front of the bar," Kozloski wrote.
In an interview last week, Magic Lantern co-owner Mark Pessolano declined comment on the arrests.
The women - Nicole S of Leominster and Karrie G of Holland - pleaded innocent in Palmer District Court last week and will return to court next month for pretrial hearing conferences.
Redacted copies of police reports on the two arrests said that police investigated the club - which features topless and nude dancers - after receiving information about prostitution going on in the back room.
One dancer told undercover officers that it would cost $200 for oral sex or $300 for sex, according to a report. "There is no doubt in this agent's mind that a deal to pay $200 for intercourse had taken place ...," an undercover officer wrote in a report.
Another officer said the dancers questioned why they were being arrested, and said that they tell people they will have sex for money, but that it's just a "hustle" to make money.

LOL...No, with these days of overpricing...thats seems to be the norm for decent strippers!

You and others may remember that the rise of the VIP room as a response to legal challenges against the industry. It offered more privacy for the discerning customers, and a small cash cow for the space for clubs.
It is interesting to note that these folks are, inessence, dropping a true VIP room for a glass cage for easy display by all.
Now, not all VIP rooms are like this. For instance, Beamers in Stamford is a rinky dink little club by all standards. Wouldn't even register on the blip of interesing places. But if you pay the $40 VIP room fee, man, the sky is the limit. Its like a totally different place with happy faces, flowing drinks, etc. Dancers actually DREAD leaving the VIP room of Beamers to go to the "regular" side.
Most clubs have a nothing more than floor space, a few couches, a lamp or two, and voila!...VIP room. Regardless of what was in it, the VIP customer could expect one critical thing...privacy. Not so at this spot...and who knows if it could ripple.
For those who find it interesting, I figured I'd share the article.
A small tip for my economical minded brethren: It has saved me a few coins over time, so I figured I'd share it for others.
For those who enjoy notells, but would rather get a fairly more decent place...check out the Travel Guides at rest stations along the highway. If you pick them up, you'll find discount coupons for hotels that are anywhere from 10% off to 40% off the regular rate.
One joint I enjoy using thats real convienent for take out usually charges about $79 for a room. Using the coupons, you can get the same room for $44.99. Not quite as cheap as a notell for an [i]hour[/i], but now you have a decent motel or hotel for the [b]night[/b].
This...you can often use for your favor. Especially for my colleagues who maintain vigil on the streets. Its a nice little bargaining chip. Decent streetwalkers really enjoy having a space to themselves once in a while for to chill. Its a nice incentive. Just don't sign for it in your name or with your credit card. Be smart about it. Met a chick in Bristol the other day.

When Matthew McBean arrived at the Bartlett police station to report stolen jewelry, he didn’t expect to also be charged with a crime.
McBean, 37, of 636 Philip Court in Bartlett, was arrested and charged Saturday with one misdemeanor count of soliciting a prostitute, Bartlett police said Monday.
Susan Byrd, 24, of 1014 N. Hamlin Ave. in Chicago was charged with one misdemeanor count of prostitution, they said.
After McBean came to police at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police investigated the nature of his relationship with Byrd and learned he had contacted her through an escort service, police said.
McBean had allegedly paid for sexual services at the Philip Court address on March 24, police said.
Byrd told police the jewelry was part of her payment arrangement with McBean, police said.
Both people were released on bond, and both have a May 3 court date at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows, police said.
