I seriously doubt that Trump effect has anything to do with the shakedowns. For the police it is all about the money.

As stated police shakedowns have been around forever and always an increase this time of year. If you have not seen a change in attitude towards gringos yet just keep your eyes open. And if it ends up that Trumps mas deportation of criminals who are in the states happens. Prepare for TJ to even become more dangerous.

It's hard to say. My guess that deportation of criminals will not have much effect in the Zona. There is a lot of LE presence in the Zona. Last week I was waiting for my girl by the parking lot at the east end of the alley. A couple of guys got into a fight and the police almost immediately stopped & arrested them. This a good reason to use extra caution. When I am in TJ I always look to see who is walking behind me.

The cop accused him of rolling through a stop sign (100% false according to my buddy who I beleive) . The cop demanded a bribe. Problem was it was very late and my friend's money was all gone to the chicas. The cop escorted him to an ATM and demanded $200 be withdrawn or threatened arrest etc etc. -$200 later my friend was on his way. Be careful.

This sounds like fake story. Shaking down multiple people at once increases the cops chances of getting caught. You can also be the the HK management would have complained as well. The recent reports is certainly is warning for increased caution in TJ.

Why is always a friend or someone told me or someone I know but it's never you as first person?

First time down at TJ and I got to say I had a blast. I've read through this thread and the International TJ forum and made use of the pointers and tips I've received.

I've parked my rental at the boarder parking, which was kinda pricey ($54) for 30 hrs. But it would have cost around that much for an uber ride back and forth. Crossing the US to Mexico border was a breeze, but it was kinda hectic once I got across. All the Taxi drivers hustling hard and after 5 minutes of not finding the HK shuttle, I just said fuck it and hopped into a taxi for $10.

Got the HK around 2 pm, checked in and went down to HK. There were quite a bit of girls but it didn't seem like the A-team. Saw one of hotter ones and bought her a drink. She spoke very little english and we didn't hit it off like I've hoped. Asked about the upstairs cost and was quoted $140, which is a bit higher than I wanted, plus she was the first girl that sat down for a drink. I went through a few more similar hotter ones and same result.

They'll probably have to wait hours in that line.

Shakedowns are not a myth. I. have personally been shook down by the police and almost all of my friends who used to frequent TJ, were shook down by police. Best advice, don't drive! They see American plates, you're almost guaranteed to get pulled over and robbed by police. Never visit an ATM with the police in line of sight. Sometimes they hide near by and wait for Americans to use it and put you against their car when you leave.

That seems like an overreach on their part, unless HK / Zona didn't pay their bribes on time. Just seems doubtful but also a bad sign if it's true, keeping me on this side until that's clearer for sure.

I have never been to Hong Kong, but I want to go check it out. I even got myself a global entry card so I don't have to wait in the lines.

I am in San Diego quite a bit, but usually I'm there during the day during the week so if I really want to go down and try it out, I was thinking during the daytime when traffic is not that bad to go and check the place out I'm assuming however, that all the really hot girls or more girls are going to be there on the weekends or at night time so my question is if I were to go there in the midday on a Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday how many girls are typically working and am I going to be able to find someone sufficiently hot to really make my first experience memorable?

I have read a few of the posts on here that are for first timers. I was planning to head down walk across the border. Take the taxi or shuttle to Hong Kong and spend maybe a couple hours. Have a beer look around get some lap dances and then find one to go upstairs for a quick bit of fun.

My goal would be to get across the border have some fun and come back over within a few hours tops. I don't want to get stranded in some long line which is why I got the global entry card and I don't want to go and deal with massive crowds.
