Who is THE gal at Galaxy these days?
Hi, mongers. Just curious who the gal of choice is at Galaxy these days. I haven't been in a while. Wondering who everyone's favorite is there at the moment.
Thanks!
How to tell ethnicity with Asians.
You're right, Chinese are only HE and CBJ, Koreans do FS. Also right about the music.
You may be right about music choices as a giveaway. And my experience is that Koreans have better English skills on average. But the simple way is the best way. Ask them if their Korean or Chinese. They'll understand that easy question and answer with pride. If Thai, which are rare, they'll let you know. After that, you can use the Google Translate app to communicate if necessary. They use it too. Having a chat usually loosens them up a bit, and they'll treat you more like an actual person when you do the same. I've also found that they like a little humor, and their standards of humor are fairly low. They'll laugh at almost anything silly. Remember. Jerry Lewis was very popular in Asia, and his humor was silly and sophomoric. Try it, and you might get more attention than usual. If they're Korean and new to town, they might not yet know about the big Korean grocery store on Independence. Tell them about it and they'll be grateful.
Happy mongering!

Kyoto -- 15 minutes? 20 minutes?
I recently ducked into Kyoto, prepared to enjoy myself.
I admit hadn't been in there in years. And when asked, I was friendly and honest with that detail. As a result, the mms was only going to let me spend 15 MINUTES there. Yup, you read correctly. She told me if I did 15 minutes that day (for .6 mind you), I could come back next time and do 20 minutes. And then 30 minutes the time after that.
I laughed out loud. Politely asked her to hand me my green back (which she did). And I happily walked out. She was very nice. And I've read all the great reviews about that place over the past year or two, but if that's their standard policy to folks they don't know - to farm them up on time, in 5- to 10-minute increments with each visit? That is a JOKE.
