That is actually an idea I thought about 20 years ago, but never pursued it. As you guys may know, I'm kind of a clean freak so renting a room out on an hourly basis would give you a killer laundry/maid service expenses. What's worse is the place could be used for drug use and you'd never know it unless you kept a close eye on the trash in the rooms and were on the lookout for odors. Getting busted for that kind of stuff can cause you to lose your property or lead to a costly legal battle.

This is a proposed city ordinance introduced by Councilman Charles Djou. It's pretty weak compared to similar laws on the mainland in that it's only a temporary impoundment rather than an administrative forfeiture where you lose the car permanently.

It's unlikely to pass. A majority of the council seems less than thrilled with the idea. HPD testified against it, saying they had no place to securely store impounded vehicles, and they believed it would be difficult to enforce.

I suspect this is just another case of Djou introducing something that goes nowhere, but gets him lots of press attention. Look for more of this as he runs for Abercrombie's seat in Congress. This guy is a "grandstander" who never misses an opportunity to get his name in the paper. Reminds me a bit of Andy Mirikitani....
