Sentri or Global, get One
Waiting to get my Global, had to suffer in line yesterday. Two and a half hours.
Did a day trip, no monger stuff, but all was festive and fun, plenty of "guards" driving around revolution.
The long wait in line was a killer, can't wait to have my Global.
I posted about Sentry vs Global in the Strip Club forum because that is where the question came up.
Kinda sorta the same card

I have SENTRI and my daughter has GE. They're the same! If I arrive at SD airport from an international destination I go thru the GE process. If she's travelling with me by car or foot from Mexico we both go thru the SENTRI line. It has been explained thoroughly before, and there is a subtle difference between the two, but from the perspective of a US citizen they are one in the same. The subtle difference is that SENTRI is open to enrollment for Mexican nationals. If you have a criminal record you're better off saving your application fee and not even applying. You will be denied the privilege. I've never waited more than a minute when crossing by foot, straight to the front of the line, and no more than 10 minutes by car. Suerte.
Verizon in MX, and Walking Over Question
I have the Verizon international plan. When in USA it costs nothing extra. As soon as the phone is activated internationally, which can be a call, text or google search the clock starts and you pay $10 for 24 hour service. Once activated you can use it as much as you want for 24 hours. Perfect if you don't use your phone often but may need it for what ever reason. You have to set this up in advance.
Question about the Ped West Bridge, can anyone tell me how the Ped West bridge works? Is it the same as the process at the main gate?
Also isn't there a border crossing walk over at the TJ airport? Anyone have any experience with that? Appreciate anything you can share.
One suggestion for taking the tram to the border if you're driving down from further up north. Use the 8th street stop in National City. Free parking, and the ride to the border is worth your 2. 50 and coming back you have a few extra stops to rest and maybe sober up for the ride home.
Be sure to buy your ticket, coming back the other day I got stopped twice and asked to show it.
Bonn Chance with your International Mongering.
I also have Verizon and Mexico is covered under my plan. But what they don't tell you is that you have to call customer service and have them "enable" the service; otherwise, you'll see coverage but you won't be able to use the service. Found that out during my trip last weekend with Durtybirds, who also has VZ, called them, and had the service activated. When I got home, I called them, and the CSR informed me of the same and enabled my service.
Thanks UCBaja2, Great Info, and Helpful
I'm new to the MX scene, your intel helps a lot. Thanks.
All I know is when I cross into MX I get a text msg from Verizon saying "Welcome to Mexico" and my phone works. I've never called VZ to "activate" my plan nor do I get charged extra.
PedWest is currently only open to northbound traffic from 6 am - 2 pm. No southbound traffic. So, if you're a morning monger or you get some lunchtime lovin' this gate is much more convenient than PedEast. Same process.
CBX. You buy a round trip ticket to use CBX in addition to your flight from aeropuerto TIJ. You fill out of few forms and cross the ped bridge to the airport where you go thru MX immigration, security, and then proceed to your gate. On your flight's arrival in TIJ, if your flight is packed or it arrives around the same time as another flight or two the line back to the US can be just as brutal as the ped line in SY and will certainly make you wish you had GE.
I've personally given several people a direct ride to the TIJ airport, this way you avoid the CBX fee and MX immigration, as you technically go thru immigration the moment you cross in the car and they wave you thru. You check in to your flight on your phone, if you have bags to check you drop them off with your carrier, then go thru security to your gate.

Hotel Jalos Recommendations?
Has anyone stayed recently at Hotel Jalos (over the Chicago Club)? Usually I book an overnight room in Cascadas for 1 night and spend 99% of my time in HK. I'm looking to have a different experience and maybe spend some $$ with HK's competition to help maintain our freedom of choice. I like having my own room so I can relax or take a nap whenever I want, but the prices at both Cascadas and Hotel Rizo de Oro (same owner) have jumped from $55 to $85 per night for the basic room (weeknight rate).
I can't find any info on the rates for Hotel Jalos, I'm hoping someone can confirm:
1. What are the rates at Hotel Jalos for weeknights?
2. Do you need to book a room in advance, or is it generally walk-up reservations?
3. How are the rooms compared to others in Zona Norte? Is it at least serviceable as a crash pad?
4. Besides Hotel Jalos, are there other alternatives to Cascadas and Rizo de Oro I should consider?
Thanks!
