I take lysine prophylactically.
Years ago, while I was in public service, before there were Breathing Bags for Mouth-To-Mouth resuscitation, I worked on a woman who was HSV-1 positive.
After the incident, I was informed of her condition and was treated with an L-Lysine (Which is an Amino Acid) Pill for 30 days. L-Lysine does not kill the Virus, but it will decrease it's effects should you have an outbreak.
Any time I feel an outbreak coming on, a tingling around my lips, I start taking my L-Lysine. Over the years, my outbreaks have become far and few between.
Just My Two Cents Worth, Hope this Helps.
I used to take lysine when I started feeling the tingle also, and it helped a fair amount, although sometimes there would be a breakthrough infection. Then, I started taking it on a daily basis irrespective of symptoms and have had no outbreaks since.
