There is a motel across the road from Miss Kitty's that is ok. You do need to be careful though, I heard a couple providers got robbed in the parking lot. That depends on your definition of near. There are "ok" hotels in Caseyville IL and better hotels a little farther away in Fairview Heights and Collinsville but mileage wise those might be farther away than going west to downtown St. Louis. As an Illinois guy if I don't have other reasons to stay in St. Louis then I'll stay in IL but if you're visiting St. Louis then a downtown hotel may be your best option.

Have seen a few downtown, some at the casino, and like I said comp rooms are helpful. I worry more at the airport then downtown.
